As part of NHL.com's 32 in 32 series, the fantasy hockey staff put together projections for relevant players on the St. Louis Blues. Players are listed in order of fantasy rank for this season.
Reason for optimism: Buchnevich has averaged more than a point per game since being traded to the Blues prior to the 2021-22 season (143 points in 136 games). Last season, Buchnevich was second on St. Louis in even-strength goals (18) and points (67), third in assists (41), and first among forwards in average time on ice (19:27).
NHL.com point projection: 71
VAN@STL: Buchnevich finishes Kapanen's feed in 2nd
Reason for optimism: Kyrou led the Blues in points (73 in 79 games), goals (37), power-play goals (11), power-play points (23) and shots on goal (272) last season. Kyrou, who had 75 points in 74 games in 2021-22, should continue to play an important role for St. Louis, so the 25-year-old should be prioritized in keeper and dynasty leagues.
NHL.com point projection: 79
BOS@STL: Kyrou nets his 2nd goal of the game in 3rd
Reason for optimism: Thomas had 65 points (18 goals, 47 assists) in 73 games last season and was second on St. Louis in power-play points (22). Thomas averaged more than a point per game in 2021-22 (77 points in 72 games), and he has the potential to do the same this season if he earns top-line minutes.
NHL.com win projection: 72
VAN@STL: Thomas pushes lead to 4-2 with a PPG in 2nd
Reason for optimism: Vrana has high upside and could be a major draft bargain this season. Although he missed time last season while in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance program, following his trade to the Blues, Vrana scored 10 goals and had 14 points in 20 games. Vrana's NHL career high in goals is 25, which he scored in 69 games with the Washington Capitals in 2019-20, so if plays a full season, 30 goals is not out of the question.
Reason for optimism: Schenn has put up at least 50 points in seven of his past eight seasons, but he also provides category coverage, ranking second on the Blues in hits (140 in 82 games) and third in shots on goal (144) last season.
