STL@SJS: Kane rifles wrist shot home for OT winner

Evander Kane scored 41 seconds into overtime, and the San Jose Sharks ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win against the St. Louis Blues at SAP Center in San Jose on Monday.

Kane took a pass from Erik Karlsson and skated into the zone on a 2-on-1 before snapping a shot past Blues goalie Ville Husso.
"I was a little ahead of 'Karl' and I felt I was all alone there, so I was definitely thinking shot," Kane said. "I was happy I was able to put it in the back of the net."

STL@SJS: Vlasic snipes transition goal home top shelf

The Blues had a chance prior to the goal to win it, but center Ryan O'Reilly tried to outlast Sharks goalie Devan Dubnyk and never got a shot off before San Jose transitioned the other way.
"He just challenged pretty hard and he came out quite a bit," O'Reilly said of Dubnyk. "I just thought I could maybe get around him, but the hands didn't do what I wanted them to and, yeah, frustrating because now it's in the back of [our] net. It's a play I've got to be better at. I've got to get a shot on net or at least put something on net. It's a tough one to lose like that."
Logan Couture and Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored, and Dubnyk made 24 saves for San Jose (9-12-3), which was 0-2-1 in its past three games and concluded a seven-game homestand 2-4-1.
"Birthday or not, obviously we needed a win here," said Sharks coach Bob Boughner, who turned 50 on Monday. "But it was nice. A couple of guys were joking before the game that they would be putting money on the board for my birthday. But it was just a great way that we won, coming from behind against a good team. We had to get that mentality, we talked about it all year, that 2-1, 3-2 mentality, and tonight it was there."
Niko Mikkola scored his first NHL goal, O'Reilly had two assists and Husso made 17 saves for St. Louis (14-8-4), which has lost two straight but still completed its six-game road trip 4-0-2.
"It was a great trip," Blues coach Craig Berube said. "It really is. We got points in every game, which is outstanding. I would have liked to close these last two games out. We didn't do it. We've got to dig down a little bit more and find a way to close these games out."

STL@SJS: Mikkola nets point shot for first NHL goal

Couture tied it 2-2 at 7:58 of the third period when the rebound of Ryan Donato's backhand in front redirected off his skate and over Husso's left pad.
"Finally we got on the power play there, and we got rewarded for it," Kane said.
Mikkola gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead at 4:16 of the first period when his shot from the left point deflected off Sharks forward Kevin Labanc's stick and beat Dubnyk glove side.
Vlasic tied it 1-1 on a shot from the top of the left circle at 7:00 of the second. It was his first goal since Dec. 7, 2019 (62 games).
Brayden Schenn put the Blues back ahead 2-1 at 19:06. David Perron flubbed a one-timer from the left circle, but Schenn was still able to redirect it under Dubnyk's glove for a power-play goal.
NOTES:Vladimir Tarasenko had an assist for the Blues in his second game of the season. He missed the first 24 games after having surgery on his left shoulder for the third time in his NHL career on Sept. 17. … Perron extended his point streak to seven games (four goals, five assists), and Schenn extended his point streak to six games (three goals, four assists). ... Blues forward Kyle Clifford played in his 700th NHL game. ... Sharks forward Timo Meier missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury.
