VAN@STL, Gm5: Charles Glenn sings national anthems

The St. Louis Blues made a key lineup adjustment prior to Game 5 of the Western Conference First Round.

Charles Glenn, the longtime national anthem singer who retired after their Blues' 2019 Stanley Cup win, was back to perform the national anthems before the pivotal game between St. Louis and the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.

Glenn capped his 19-year run as Blues anthem singer last June, making his final performance before Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. But after the Blues lost each of their first two "home" Stanley Cup Playoff games to the Canucks, Glenn returned, virtually, to deliver his signature soulful rendition of both "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "O Canada."

Glenn told The Athletic he produced at least 12 takes of each anthem before finally submitting the perfect one.

"It's strange when you do it and can do it over and over again, but it was a lot of fun," Glenn told The Athletic. "I was really honored they asked me."

The adjustment didn't quite have the desired effect because the Canucks took Game 5 4-3, taking a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.
