Walking into the game was something incredible. I've never experienced anything like that. I couldn't imagine that being any better.
I was looking forward to it because I knew where the band was going to be. Even the fans, you could hear them yelling down. It really set the tone for the game. My favorite part of the national anthem is when everyone yells "red," so when 57,000 people yell "red," it's a little bit different. I had chills going through my body. It really set the game up well.
During warmups, I was definitely looking around. Coming off the ice walking into the dressing room, I was trying to fire up the crowd a little bit and get them going a little bit.

During the game, I felt pretty dialed. I think I did a good job focusing on what the task was and what we had ahead of us. Everyone was pretty focused on the game because Washington is a pretty good team. They can beat us. And the ice was unbelievable ice. It made it fun. The boards were extremely lively, which made everything a little more interesting on dumps. It felt pretty fast out there.
Everyone was saying how big of a game this is not only for our team and organization, but for the city of Raleigh, so you don't want to come out here and lose.
It's definitely a big incentive having everyone here. A few years ago, there were some down years, so to have 57,000 people supporting us tonight, you can't ask for anything more. One thing that rolls through my head every game is that there is someone here who has never seen me play. I don't want to disappoint them. They paid good money to come watch me, so I don't want to come out here and lay a burger on the ice. I think our whole team had that idea, that we need to play hard and stick to the way we need to play to win so we don't disappoint ourselves and our fans.
