P.K. Subban is hitting the airwaves with a new podcast, and got up close and personal with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Seattle Kraken co-owner Jerry Bruckheimer in the first two episodes.
The New Jersey Devils defenseman had Commissioner Bettman on for a lengthy interview for the first episode, though it was Commissioner Bettman who got in the first question, asking about the name of Subban's "Ugly Duckling Podcast."
"Ugly Duck is the name of my production company," Subban explained. "I'm a huge fan of the story 'The Ugly Duckling' I always thought of myself as an ugly duck coming through the NHL and the story of the Ugly Duck as we know, he starts off ugly, he's irritating everyone, but then he blossoms into something everyone understands and sees is a beauty and I'm hoping for that, especially with this podcast, Gary."
Subban and Commissioner Bettman covered a variety of topics during the interview, including memories from his first Stanley Cup presentations in 1993 with the Montreal Canadiens and in 1994 with the New York Rangers, increasing diversity in the NHL's coaching ranks, the effects on a personal and business level of the 2004 lockout, the process of Seattle's expansion team, navigating the pandemic and the Return to Play, and his goals for the NHL when he took over as Commissioner.
For the second episode, Subban asked Bruckheimer about his love of hockey and his previous attempts to be an NHL owner before finally landing with Seattle, the significance of having Eddie Murphy as the star of "Beverly Hills Cop," the upcoming "Top Gun" sequel, and more.
In addition to interviewing guests, Subban gives his insight on the latest news in the NHL in his signature style. "P.K. Subban's Ugly Duck Podcast" is available for download on all major podcast platforms.
