The Montreal Canadiens keep scoring goals and surging up the NHL.com Super 16 power rankings.

The Canadiens, who lead the NHL with 4.40 goals per game, moved up two spots to No. 2 this week. They were ranked No. 8 two weeks ago in the first Super 16 of the season and No. 15 in the preseason Super 16.
Montreal was ranked No. 1 by five of the 14 participating staff members this week.
The Tampa Bay Lightning moved up to retake the top spot in the Super 16 from the Vegas Golden Knights, who didn't play and dropped two spots to No. 3.
The Boston Bruins (No. 5) and the Carolina Hurricanes (No. 11) each moved up three spots. The Winnipeg Jets (No. 13) and Pittsburgh Penguins (No. 14) each fell three.
To create the Super 16, each of the 14 staff members put together his or her version of what they think it should look like. Those were submitted and a point total was assigned to each.
The team that was selected first was given 16 points, second got 15, third 14 and so on down to No. 16, which got one point.

1. Tampa Bay Lightning (6-1-1)

Steven Stamkos has scored four goals, three on the power play, in eight games. His power-play goal in a 5-2 win against the Nashville Predators on Monday was his 301st power-play point (158 goals, 143 assists), putting him first in Lightning history, one ahead of forward Martin St. Louis.

2. Montreal Canadiens (7-1-2)

Tyler Toffoli leads the NHL with nine goals, including eight in five games against the Vancouver Canucks, the team he played for at the end of last season. The forward scored two in a 5-3 win against Vancouver on Tuesday for his third multigoal game of the season. The Canadiens are 4-0-1 with 28 goals against the Canucks and have scored at least five goals in each game.

3. Vegas Golden Knights (5-1-1)

The Golden Knights haven't played since Jan. 26. They had three games postponed because three coaches and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo were being isolated in connection with the NHL COVID-19 protocol. Vegas is scheduled to host the Los Angeles Kings on Friday.

4. Washington Capitals (6-1-3)

The Capitals had a nine-game point streak (6-0-3), their best start to a season, end Monday when they lost 5-3 to the Boston Bruins after blowing a 3-0 lead. They have trailed for 48:52 in their 10 games.

5. Boston Bruins (7-1-2)

David Pastrnak, playing his third game of the season Wednesday after recovering from offseason hip surgery, scored a hat trick and had an assist on the overtime goal by Patrice Bergeron in a 4-3 comeback win against the Philadelphia Flyers. Pastrnak scored twice in a 5-3 win against the Capitals on Monday.

6. Dallas Stars (5-1-1)

Joe Pavelski has scored 14 points (seven goals, seven assists), including five power-play goals. The forward scored a point in five straight games (10 points; five goals, five assists) to start the season before gettng none in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. He followed that by scoring four points (two goals, two assists) in a 6-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

7. Colorado Avalanche (7-3-1)

The Avalanche won their first game without center Nathan MacKinnon, 2-1 against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday. MacKinnon (14 points; two goals, 12 assists in 10 games) is week to week with a lower-body injury sustained in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Wild on Sunday. He joins a lengthy Avalanche injured list that includes goalie Pavel Francouz (lower body); forwards Pierre-Edouard Bellemare (lower body) and Matt Calvert (upper body); and defensemen Devon Toews (lower body) and Erik Johnson (upper body). 8. Toronto Maple Leafs (7-2-1)

The Maple Leafs are 5-0-1 in one-goal games, winning their first five before losing 4-3 in overtime to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, when they came back from down 3-1. Toronto is 4-0-1 in its past five games. Auston Matthews has scored in each of the past five games he's played.

9. St. Louis Blues (7-2-1)

Mike Hoffman scored his second goal of the season in a 4-3 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday. The forward has a point in three straight games (one goal, two assists) after scoring two points (one goal, one assist) in his first six. The Blues have won four in a row, scoring at least four goals in each game.

10. Philadelphia Flyers (7-2-2)

Brian Elliott has delivered as the Flyers' No. 2 goalie, going 3-0-0 with a 2.22 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and one shutout in four games (three starts).

11. Carolina Hurricanes (6-1-0)

James Reimer is 4-0-0 with a 2.19 GAA and .915 save percentage in four games (three starts), including 30 saves in a 4-3 shootout win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. He will get plenty of work with goalie Petr Mrazek sidelined following surgery on his right thumb. Jordan Staal has scored a point in four straight games (one goal, five assists). Carolina has won five in a row.

12. Florida Panthers (5-0-1)

The Panthers are 4-0-1 in one-goal games and 2-0-1 in games they allow the first goal. Their six-game point streak to start the season is the second longest in their history, behind a 12-game streak (8-0-4 ties) to start the 1996-97 season.

The Jets are 9-for-9 on the penalty kill in their past three games and 17-for-19 in their past seven. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck needs one win to set a Jets/Atlanta Thrashers record. He's tied with Ondrej Pavelec with 152.

14. Pittsburgh Penguins (5-4-1)

Injuries have ravaged Penguins defensemen with six out of the lineup, including four who started the season in their top six (Kris Letang, Brian Dumoulin, Marcus Pettersson and Mike Matheson). Letang sustained a lower-body injury in a 5-4 overtime win against the New York Rangers on Saturday and didn't play in a 3-1 loss to New York on Monday.

15. Minnesota Wild (6-5-0)

The Wild had four games postponed through Feb. 9 after five players were placed in the NHL COVID-19 protocol Wednesday: defenseman Jared Spurgeon, and forwards Nick Bjugstad, Nick Bonino, Joel Eriksson Ek and Marcus Johansson. Goalie Cam Talbot is back after missing four games and played well in two starts against the Avalanche, going 1-1-0 allowing five goals on 56 shots (.911 save percentage).

The Flames have allowed the first goal in six of their nine games and scored six goals in the first period this season. The defense pair of Noah Hanifin and Chris Tanev was on the ice for their first goal against in nine games together in a 3-2 loss to the Jets on Tuesday.
