Super 16: Hurricanes, Flames rise in weekly rankings

The movement of note is at the bottom of the NHL.com Super 16 power rankings this week.

The Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames each moved up two spots to No. 11 and No. 14. The Nashville Predators are in at No. 15, replacing the Vancouver Canucks.
The New York Islanders had just enough voting points to stay in at No. 16.
Six of the top 10 teams are in the same spot, including the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche, who are ranked No. 1 through No. 4 for a second straight week.
To create the power rankings, each of the 13 participating staff members puts together his or her version of what the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total is assigned to each.
The team picked first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third gets 14 and so on down to No. 16, which gets one point.
Here is the latest Super 16:

1. Boston Bruins (44-14-12)

Total points: 207
Last week:No. 1
Hit:The Bruins have an NHL-high 41 points since Jan. 7 (20-6-1) in large part because they've allowed an NHL-low 2.30 goals per game in that stretch.
Miss:Defensemen Torey Krug and Brandon Carlo each is day to day with an upper-body injury. Neither played in a 2-0 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

2. St. Louis Blues (42-19-10)

Total points:193
Last week:No. 2
Hit:Colton Parayko has nine points (four goals, five assists) in his past 11 games, and his eight goals since Jan. 21 were first among NHL defensemen.
Miss: Nothing.

3. Tampa Bay Lightning (43-21-6)

Total points: 179
Last week:No. 3
Hit: Nikita Kucherov has a point in four straight games (two goals, three assists). The forward has at least one point in 23 of his past 24 games (16 goals, 20 assists).
Miss: Defenseman Victor Hedman has missed two games with a lower-body injury and is day to day.

4. Colorado Avalanche (42-20-8)

Total points: 163
Last week:No. 4
Hit:Gabriel Landeskog has 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 13 games since Feb. 17. The forward had an eight-game point streak (five goals, eight assists) from Feb. 22-March 8.
Miss: Nathan MacKinnon will be out 1-2 weeks with a lower-body injury. He didn't play against the New York Rangers on Wednesday, the first he missed since Feb. 16, 2018, ending a streak of 176 consecutive games played.

5. Philadelphia Flyers (41-21-7)

Total points: 150
Last week: No. 6
Hit:Carter Hart is 9-2-0 with a 1.93 goals-against average and .934 save percentage in 11 starts since Feb. 10.
Miss:Defenseman Philippe Myers is expected to be out up to four weeks with a fractured right knee, and forward Nate Thompson will be out a minimum of two weeks with a knee sprain.

6. Washington Capitals (41-20-8)

Total points:149
Last week:No. 5
Hit:Alex Ovechkin has five goals in his past five games. The left wing needs two goals to reach 50 in a season for the ninth time in his NHL career.
Miss:The Capitals are 15.6 percent on the power play and 78.3 percent on the penalty kill in 17 games since Feb. 2, which rank 23rd and 20th in the NHL in that stretch. They're 6-8-3 in that time.

7. Vegas Golden Knights (39-24-8)

Total points:137
Last week: No. 7
Hit:Shea Theodore has scored the game-winning goal in the past two games. The defenseman has four game-winning goals, tied for second among NHL defensemen.
Miss: The Golden Knights are 3-for-8 on the penalty kill (37.5 percent) in five games this month.

8. Pittsburgh Penguins (40-23-6)

Total points:118
Last week:No. 8
Hit:Forward Evgeni Malkin has 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in a five-game point streak, including a goal in three straight games.
Miss: Nick Bjugstad is week to week with a lower-body injury that coach Mike Sullivan said is not related to a previous injury. The forward had played three games since returning from a 46-game absence because of a core muscle injury.

9. Edmonton Oilers (37-25-9)

Total points:94
Last week: No. 10
Hit:Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in a six-game point streak that ended Wednesday. The forward has 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) in his past 17 games.
Miss: The Oilers allowed at least 40 shots on goal in four of six games before allowing 24 to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.

10. Dallas Stars (37-24-8)

Total points: 84
Last week: No. 9
Hit: Miro Heiskanen had two assists in a 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday and the defenseman has 35 points this season (eight goals, 27 assists), two more than he had in 82 games as a rookie last season.
Miss:The Stars are 0-4-2 with nine goals in their past six games. They went eight periods without a goal before scoring two in the third period against the Rangers.

11. Carolina Hurricanes (38-25-5)

Total points:81
Last week: No. 13
Hit:The Hurricanes have won three games in a row, scoring 14 goals, and forward Justin Williams has scored in five straight games.
Miss: Defenseman Brett Pesce, who hasn't played since Feb. 22, had surgery on his right shoulder last week and will be out for the rest of the season.

12. Toronto Maple Leafs (36-25-9)

Total points:68
Last week:No. 11
Hit:Auston Matthews needs three goals for his first 50-goal season in the NHL. The forward has 32 goals at home, two behind Darryl Sittler (1977-78) for the most home goals in a season in Maple Leafs history.
Miss:Toronto has scored five goals in its past four games (1-2-1).

13. Columbus Blue Jackets (33-22-15)

Total points: 39
Last week:No. 14
Hit:The Blue Jackets have earned 55 of their 81 points in one-goal games, going 20-8-15, including 11-3-11 since Dec. 12.
Miss: They are 12.5 percent on the power play (6-for-48) in their past 23 games.

14. Calgary Flames (36-27-7)

Total points:32
Last week:No. 16
Hit:Forwards Matthew Tkachuk (eight goals, 15 assists) and Mikael Backlund (10 goals, 13 assists) each has 23 points in 20 games since Jan. 28.
Miss: The Flames allowed the first goal in five of their past six games and gave up the first goal in 40 of their 70 games. Only the Ottawa Senators (44) and Detroit Red Wings (41) have allowed the first goal in more games.

15. Nashville Predators (35-26-8)

Total points:22
Last week:NR
Hit: The Predators have won three games in a row, with goalie Juuse Saros allowing two goals on 104 shots. He is 10-4-0 with a 2.02 GAA, .940 save percentage and three shutouts since Feb. 4.
Miss:Nashville has four remaining back-to-back sets, with the second half a road game each time.

16. New York Islanders (35-23-10)

Total points:16

Hit: Defenseman Nick Leddy ended a 13-game streak without a point by getting an assist in a 5-4 shootout loss at the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.
Miss: The Islanders are 0-3-4 in their past seven games and 2-7-4 in their past 13.
