Super 16: Bruins back on top of power rankings

The Boston Bruins returned to the top spot in the NHL.com Super 16 power rankings.

The Bruins have won 14 of their past 17 games and replaced the Tampa Bay Lightning, who held the top spot each of the past two weeks but dropped to No. 3.
The Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs each moved up three spots this week.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Dallas Stars each fell three spots, to No. 8 and 9 respectively.
The Vancouver Canucks took the biggest fall, from No. 11 to No. 15.
To create the power rankings, each of the 13 participating staff members puts together his or her version of what the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total is assigned to each.
The team picked first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third gets 14 and so on down to No. 16, which gets one point.
Here is the latest Super 16:

1. Boston Bruins (42-13-12)

Total points: 207
Last week:No. 2
Hit:The Bruins have given up the fewest goals in the NHL (161) and rank second on the power play (25.1 percent) and third on the penalty kill (84.0 percent) entering play Wednesday.
Miss:They're 0-7 in shootouts, one of three teams without a shootout win (Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets).

2. St. Louis Blues (40-17-10)

Total points:194
Last week:No. 3
Hit:The Blues have won eight straight games while outscoring opponents 28-13.
Miss:Forward David Perron, whose 25 goals are tied with Brayden Schenn for the Blues lead, has scored two in his past 15 games.

3. Tampa Bay Lightning (41-20-5)

Total points:178
Last week: No. 1
Hit:Forward Nikita Kucherov had a personal 19-game point streak (31 points; 14 goals, 17 assists) before being held off the score sheet in a 2-1 loss to the Bruins on Tuesday.
Miss:The Lightning have lost five of six (1-5-0) while allowing 26 goals since an 11-game winning streak. Center Steven Stamkos is out 6-8 weeks because of a core muscle injury.

4. Colorado Avalanche (40-18-8)

Total points:168
Last week:No. 7
Hit:Colorado won seven in a row and outscored opponents 16-9 before a 4-3 overtime loss against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
Miss:The Avalanche are without forwards Mikko Rantanen, Nazem Kadri, Andre Burakovsky and goalie Philipp Grubauer. Rookie defenseman Cale Makar (upper body) missed his second straight game Wednesday.

5. Washington Capitals (40-20-6)

Total points:153
Last week:No. 4
Hit:The Capitals lead the NHL with 89 third-period goals and have a plus-19 differential.
Miss:Washington is 3-for-25 on the power play in its past nine games, including 0-for-5 in a 5-2 loss against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.

6. Philadelphia Flyers (39-20-7)

Total points:142
Last week:No. 8
Hit:The Flyers, who have won seven straight games, have six players who have scored at least 19 goals (Travis Konecny, 24; Kevin Hayes, 23; Sean Couturier, 21; Claude Giroux and James van Riemsdyk, 19 each).
Miss: Philadelphia coach Alain Vigneault announced after the game Wednesday that van Riemsdyk broke his hand in the first period while blocking a shot. It is unknown how long the forward will be out.

7. Vegas Golden Knights (37-23-8)

Total points:125
Last week: No. 9
Hit: Goalie Robin Lehner made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season, 3-0 against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. He's stopped 59 of 61 shots in two games since he was traded to Vegas on Feb. 24.
Miss:Forward Mark Stone is week to week with a lower-body injury.

8. Pittsburgh Penguins (38-21-6)

Total points: 123
Last week: No. 5
Hit: John Marino scored in his return to the lineup, a 7-3 win against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday after the defenseman missed 11 games with a facial injury.
Miss:The Penguins lost their previous six games in a row, getting outscored 24-8.

9. Dallas Stars (37-21-8)

Total points: 116
Last week:No. 6
Hit:Forward Denis Gurianov leads the Stars with 20 goals, including three in his past four games.
Miss: Goalie Ben Bishop (lower body) did not play in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

10. Edmonton Oilers (36-23-8)

Total points: 89
Last week:No. 13
Hit:Forwards Leon Draisaitl (108 points) and Connor McDavid (95) rank first and second respectively in the NHL in scoring.
Miss: One other Oilers player has more than 33 points (Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, 58).

11. Toronto Maple Leafs (35-24-8)

Total points:59
Last week:No. 14
Hit:Center Auston Matthews has scored a goal in three straight games and is one behind Bruins forward David Pastrnak for the NHL lead (47).
Miss:The Maple Leafs are 7-11-2 in games not started by goalie Frederik Andersen.

12. New York Islanders (35-22-8)

Last week: No. 10
Hit: Forward Jordan Eberle has eight points (five goals, three assists) in his past seven games.
Miss:New York has lost four straight games (0-2-2) and eight of its past 10 (2-6-2), while getting shut out three times.

13. Carolina Hurricanes (35-24-5)

Total points: 48
Last week: No. 12
Hit:Carolina is 10-5 after regulation, 5-0 in shootouts.
Miss:The Hurricanes have lost three straight games (0-2-1), allowing 11 goals since regular goalies Petr Mrazek and James Reimer were injured in a 6-3 win against the Maple Leafs on Feb. 22.

14. Columbus Blue Jackets (32-21-15)

Total points: 36
Last week: No. 15
Hit:Zach Werenski leads all defenseman with 20 goals and is seven points from tying his NHL career high of 47 set as a rookie in 2016-17.
Miss:Columbus will be without Oliver Bjorkstrand for 8-10 weeks because of an ankle injury. The forward leads the Blue Jackets with 21 goals.

15. Vancouver Canucks (34-26-6)

Hit:Forward Tyler Toffoli has seven points (five goals, two assists) in eight games since he was traded to the Canucks by the Kings on Feb. 17.
Miss:Vancouver has four wins in its past 14 games (4-8-2) while allowing at least three goals in eight straight games and 13 of its past 15.

Hit:Forward Johnny Gaudreau has points in 11 of his past 13 games (15 points; three goals, 12 assists).
