Super 16 Flames 11.4

The Carolina Hurricanes went up one spot in the NHL.com Super 16 power rankings to come in at No. 1 this week.

The Hurricanes moved ahead of the Florida Panthers, who dropped to No. 2 after spending the past two weeks in the top spot.
The Calgary Flames moved four spots to get into the top five at No. 5. The Winnipeg Jets made the biggest jump, eight places to go from No. 16 last week to No. 8 this week. The New York Rangers moved up five spots to No. 14.
To create the NHL.com power rankings, each of the 14 participating staff members put together his or her version of what they think it should look like. Those were submitted and a point total assigned to each.
The team that was selected first was given 16 points, second got 15, third 14 and so on down to No. 16, who got one point.
Here is the Super 16:

1. Carolina Hurricanes (9-0-0)

Total points: 222
Last week: No. 2
The Hurricanes are the only undefeated team in the NHL. They have outscored their opponents 37-15, and Frederik Andersen is 8-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average, a .949 save percentage and one shutout.

      2. Florida Panthers (8-0-1)

      Last week: No. 1
      Sergei Bobrovsky has six straight wins to start a season for the first time in his NHL career. He's the first goalie in Panthers history to win at least his first five starts of a season. He has allowed seven goals in his past five games.

      3. St. Louis Blues (6-1-1)

      Total points: 184
      Last week: No. 3
      The Blues are outscoring opponents 26-13 after the first period. Forward Vladimir Tarasenko has scored 11 points (four goals, seven assists) during a seven-game point streak.

      4. Edmonton Oilers (8-1-0)

      Total points: 181
      Last week: No. 5
      Leon Draisaitl already has two four-point games this season, giving the center 15 in his NHL career, tied with Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane for third most since he entered the NHL in 2014-15, behind Oilers center Connor McDavid (19) and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (16).

      5. Calgary Flames (6-1-2)

      Total points: 161
      Last week: No. 9
      Jacob Markstrom's shutout streak ended at 144:46 in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. The goalie is 4-1-2 with a 1.56 GAA, .947 save percentage and three shutouts.

          6. Washington Capitals (5-1-3)

          Total points: 156

          The Capitals did not lose a game in regulation in October for the first time in their history. They have outscored their opponents 23-12 through the first two periods but are 0-1-3 in one-goal games. They are 4-for-14 on the power play in their past three games after going 0-for-15 in their previous five.

          7. Tampa Bay Lightning (5-3-1)

          Total points: 130
          Last week: No. 10
          Alex Killorn has scored five goals during a four-game goal streak. The forward leads the Lightning with seven goals. Tampa Bay has won three games in a row.

          8. Winnipeg Jets (5-2-2)

          Total points: 98
          Last week: No. 16
          The Jets are 5-0-1 and 42.9 percent on the power play (6-for-14) in a six-game point streak since Oct. 21. Forward Kyle Connor's personal six-game point streak (six goals, seven assists) ended Tuesday. Forward Pierre-Luc Dubois has scored 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in an eight-game streak.

          9. New York Rangers (6-2-2)

          Total points: 95
          Last week: No. 14
          Adam Fox leads the Rangers with 11 points (two goals, nine assists). The defenseman, who signed a seven-year, $66.5 million contract Monday, has scored 100 points (15 goals, 85 assists) in 135 NHL games, all for New York. The only defensemen in Rangers history to reach 100 points in fewer games are Brian Leetch (102) and Sergei Zubov (108), each in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

          10. Minnesota Wild (6-3-0)

          Total points: 94
          Last week: No. 7
          Kirill Kaprizov scored his first goal of the season 2:02 into overtime to give the Wild a 5-4 win against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. The forward led NHL rookies with 27 goals and 51 points last season, when he won the Calder Trophy voted as the NHL rookie of the year. The Wild are 6-0-0 in games decided by one goal, 3-0 in overtime.

              12. New York Islanders (3-2-2)

              The Islanders have points in five straight games (3-0-2), all on the road. Goalie Ilya Sorokin has allowed six goals on 163 shots (1.17 GAA, .963 save percentage) with two shutouts during the point streak. New York has six road games before playing its first game at UBS Arena against the Flames on Nov. 20.

              13. Colorado Avalanche (4-4-1)

              Total points: 53
              Last week: No. 12
              Nathan MacKinnon is on a seven-game point streak after he had an assist in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday. The center has scored at least one point in each of the first seven games he has played this season after missing the first two in NHL COVID-19 protocol (10 points; one goal, nine assists).

              14. Boston Bruins (4-3-0)

              Total points: 49
              Last week: No. 6
              The Bruins are tied with the Islanders for the fewest games played this season (seven). They will play 12 games this month, 13 in December and 16 in January.
