Maroon split

You again?

That is what the Stanley Cup must have been thinking Wednesday after the Tampa Bay Lightning secured their second straight championship. The win meant the Cup would once again be hoisted by Lightning forward Pat Maroon.
Known as the "Big Rig," Maroon was a member of the champion St. Louis Blues during their worst-to-first run in 2018-19. He signed with the Lightning in the summer of 2019 and has now won two straight titles with them.
He couldn't help but make a joke on Instagram as the Cup was coming out to the ice at Amalie Arena after a 1-0 win against the Montreal Canadiens in Game 5 on Wednesday.
"Guy can't get rid of me," Maroon wrote on his Instagram story over a video of the Stanley Cup being carried to the table.
And he's right.
After his post about the Cup, Maroon shared videos of fans inside Amalie Arena going wild in the stands, the locker room celebration and even his
parents drinking out of the Cup
.
Maroon became the first player of the post-expansion era to win three consecutive Cup titles with two different teams. And while he is the
81st player in NHL history to win at least three in a row
, he is just the fourth to do it with two different teams, joining Ed Litzenberger [1961-64 with the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs], Ab McDonald [1958-61, Canadiens and Blackhawks] and Eddie Gerard [1920-23, Ottawa Senators and Toronto St. Patricks].
Another offseason or two together and Maroon and the Cup can declare themselves best friends forever.
