Lightning add depth at forward with Sheary, Glendening, Archibald

Conor Sheary, F:The 31-year-old signed a three-year contract July 1. Sheary had 37 points (15 goals, 22 assists) in 82 games for the Washington Capitals last season. He won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017. … Luke Glendening, F: The 34-year-old signed a two-year contract July 1. He had six points (three goals, three assists) in 70 games for the Dallas Stars last season. Glendening has won 57.9 percent of his face-offs in the past five seasons, fourth in the NHL among skaters with at least 500 taken in that span. … Josh Archibald, F:The 30-year-old signed a two-year contract July 1. He had 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 62 games for the Penguins last season. … Calvin de Haan, D: The 32-year-old signed a one-year contract July 2. He had 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) in 53 games for the Carolina Hurricanes last season. … Jonas Johansson, G:The 27-year-old signed a two-year contract July 1 to back up Andrei Vasilevskiy. Johansson played primarily for Colorado in the American Hockey League last season and was 14-9-2 with a 2.33 goals-against average and .920 save percentage. He also played three games for the Colorado Avalanche and was 2-0-0 with a 2.10 GAA and .932 save percentage. He is 11-13-4 with a 3.32 GAA, .887 save percentage and one shutout in 35 NHL games (28 starts). … Logan Brown, F: The 25-year-old signed a one-year contract July 1. It's a two-way contract, but Brown could make the Lightning's final roster out of training camp. He played the past two seasons with the St. Louis Blues and had 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 69 games, including six points (two goals, four assists) in 30 games last season.

Key departures

Alex Killorn, F:Signed a four-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks on July 1. Killorn played 11 seasons with the Lightning and had 466 points (198 goals, 268 assists) in 805 games, including NHL highs in goals (27), assists (37) and points (64) in 82 games last season. He won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021 and reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2015 and 2022. … Pat Maroon, F:Traded to the Minnesota Wild on July 2. Maroon had 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 80 games last season. He won the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021 and went to the Final in 2022. … Ross Colton, F:Traded to the Avalanche on June 28. Colton had 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) in 81 games last season. … Corey Perry, F: Traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on June 29. Perry had 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) in 81 games last season. … Ian Cole, D: Signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks on July 1. Cole had 17 points (three goals, 14 assists) in 78 games last season. … Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, F: Signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Kraken on July 7. Bellemare had 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 73 games last season. … Video: Conor Sheary on his deal with the Lightning, G: He's an unrestricted free agent after going 12-8-2 with a 3.40 GAA, .891 save percentage and two shutouts in 22 games last season.

On the cusp

Darren Raddysh, D:The 27-year-old played 17 games and all six in the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs last season after he was recalled from Syracuse of the AHL on March 2. He had three points (one goal, two assists) in the regular season and two points (one goal, one assist) in the playoffs. He could be in Tampa Bay's top-six defense group to start the season. … Video: Conor Sheary on his deal with the Lightning, G: The 22-year-old played last season in the AHL, going 17-12-2 with a 2.77 GAA, .904 save percentage and three shutouts in 33 games. Alnefelt is likely to start this season with Syracuse but could be recalled by the Lightning and projects as an eventual backup to Vasilevskiy.

What they still need

It's unclear if the Lightning will need better depth. They have their 23-man roster set after signing forward Tanner Jeannot to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $2.665 million July 15. But they are tight against the $83.5 million NHL salary cap and do not have any wiggle room, so they're hopeful they can replenish what was lost in Killorn, Perry, Colton, Maroon, Bellemare, Cole and Elliott with Sheary, Glendening, Archibald, Brown, de Haan and Johansson.

Fantasy focus

Sheary will get the opportunity to have a top-six and secondary power-play role on a consistently strong Lightning team. He is a fantasy player worth considering in late rounds of deep leagues as a beneficiary of his new team. -- Anna Dua
