The 30-year-old is 9-10-2 with a 2.79 goals-against average and .907 save percentage in 22 games this season. Bishop led the NHL with a 2.06 GAA and was 35-21-4, finishing second in Vezina Trophy voting to Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals last season.
Bishop strained ligaments in his ankle during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Penguins won in seven games to advance to the Final, where they defeated the San Jose Sharks.
Andre Vasilevskiy is likely to be the Lightning starter while Bishop is sidelined. Tampa Bay recalled goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis from Syracuse of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. Gudlevskis is 5-4-2 with a 2.89 GAA and .884 save percentage in 14 AHL games this season.
The Lightning were without injured forwards Nikita Kucherov (lower body), Ondrej Palat (undisclosed), Ryan Callahan (lower body) and Steven Stamkos (knee) against the Red Wings.
