The 27-year-old forward had NHL career highs in goals (14), assists (15) and points (29) in 80 games with the Winnipeg Jets last season and two points (one goal, one assist) in five Stanley Cup Playoff games.
"It's very exciting to take the next step in my career," Tanev said. "I'm very happy it's in Pittsburgh. The team has had great success. There's a great leadership group and management group here in Pittsburgh. I'm very excited to be a part of that. I'm looking forward to starting the season and getting things going and continuing that trend of success that this organization has had for many years."
Signed as an undrafted free agent by Winnipeg on March 30, 2016, Tanev has 51 points (24 goals, 27 assists) in 195 regular-season games and eight points (five goals, three assists) in 22 NHL playoff games.
"He's a great penalty-killer. He's got the good speed. He gets chances on the PK to score," Pittsburgh general manager Jim Rutherford said. "The speed, the fact that we think he can move up and down the lineup a bit, hard to play against 5-on-5, good team guy. I talked to some people that follow him really close and everybody spoke really highly of him."
