Flyers at Predators | Recap

NASHVILLE – Morgan Frost scored with 11.4 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game, and Sean Couturier scored at 2:31 of overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 win against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday.

Frost tied it 2-2 on a redirection of a shot from Couturier that also tipped off of Travis Sanheim's stick.

Couturier then redirected a pass from Travis Konecny past Predators goaltender Juuse Saros for the game-winner.

“Just staying with it, staying patient,” Sanheim said. “It wasn’t our best effort. Find a way to stay in the game and get one late and end up probably stealing two points. But you look at the other night, probably a game that we should’ve had and end up losing it. That’s the way hockey is sometimes. We’ll take the two points and move on.”

Couturier also had an assist, Scott Laughton scored, and Aleksei Kolosov made 25 saves for the Flyers (10-10-3), who have won two of their past three games.

“[Kolosov] gave us a chance tonight,” Couturier said. “We weren’t at the best of our game. We weren’t sharp, and he kept us in it all game. Made us believe and gave us a chance. That’s all you can ask for.”

Roman Josi and Ryan O'Reilly scored, and Saros made 20 saves for the Predators (7-12-4), who have lost two consecutive games (0-1-1).

“I think we fell asleep a little bit,” Predators coach Andrew Brunette said. “Didn’t love us through the neutral zone there. We talked about five on six, they’re pretty dangerous off the rush. We kind of fell asleep and gave them an easy goal.”

Josi gave the Predators a 1-0 lead at 6:17 of the first period on a wraparound pass attempt that went in off of Sanheim.

“Tough ending, obviously, but I thought we played a pretty good game,” Josi said. “I thought we deserved to win tonight. It felt like we had the puck most of the game. We created a lot of chances. Obviously didn’t score enough, but I feel like we had our looks, we had our chances. That’s the way it goes sometimes at the end, but I think it’s encouraging the way we played.”

Laughton tied the game 1-1 at 12:46 on a shot from below the left face-off circle.

“There were a lot of minutes that it just was not good for us tonight,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “I readily admit that. But I just like the way they just stayed with it and tried to plug along. You need to get big saves at key times to keep you there. We just kept on talking about just trying to get to our game, trying to play forward.”

O’Reilly gave the Predators a 2-1 lead at 16:18 on a one-timer from the left circle on a pass from Gustav Nyquist.

“We had some great opportunities that we didn’t score on,” O’Reilly said. “I think at times we tilted the ice, had all the momentum and need to score. Obviously, it’s the same thing. We haven’t been scoring goals. Just make it a one-goal game, and obviously they just stick with it and make a nice play at the end there to tie it up. But it was definitely there for us.”
