Matthews and John Tavares each had a goal and an assist for Toronto (27-13-2), which beat Philadelphia 3-2 in overtime at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Sunday. Joseph Woll made 30 saves.
Matthews had his 200th multipoint game in his 589th game, the fastest by a United States-born player in NHL history.
The Maple Leafs captain has seven points (two goals, five assists) in three games back in the lineup after missing six because of an upper-body injury.
"I feel good," Matthews said. "I think every night I felt better, and just want to keep that momentum going. I think my linemates [Knies and Mitch Marner] are making it easy on me, the chemistry seems to be drawing really well. It always helps when the puck goes in the back of the net, so it kind of gives you a little bit of confidence. I just want to take it one game at a time and just continue to build off our game and what we're doing right now, and just keep being responsible at both ends of the ice."
Travis Konecny scored two goals for Philadelphia (17-19-5), which is 3-7-1 in its past 11. Fedotov made 14 saves.
"I think we were playing the right way, really aggressive on them in the neutral zone against their top guys," Flyers forward Noah Cates said. "I think we take some confidence but it really hurts not at least getting a point tonight."
Konecny put the Flyers ahead 1-0 at 8:19 of the first period with a one-timer from the right face-off circle off a pass from Sean Couturier below the goal line.
Tavares tied it 1-1 at 1:19 of the second period on a power-play goal from the left face-off circle.
"I think it was a great response by our power play," Tavares said. "Kind of led the way in the sluggishness in the first [period] and got a big goal in the second and our game built from there."
Konecny put the Flyers ahead 2-1 at 7:14. Cates stole the puck from Maple Leafs defenseman Conor Timmins and found Konecny alone in front.
Matthews tied the game with a power-play goal from the slot at 7:55.
"Saw a little space there in front and just quick, bang-bang play, tried to get it off as quick as possible," Matthews said. "Didn't get the most wood on it, but enough to beat him."
