Stars at Kings | Recap

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Kings scored three straight goals to rally for a 3-2 win against the Dallas Stars at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday.

It was the first multigoal comeback of the season for the Kings (15-8-3), who trailed by two goals 13:40 into the first period.

“Night and day,” said defenseman Joel Edmundson, describing the difference between the first period and the last 40 minutes for Los Angeles. “Yeah, we had a little wake-up call between the first and second. And still wasn’t our best game, but we found a way.”

Tanner Jeannot and Warren Foegele each had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles, which has won four straight for the first time this season. David Rittich made 26 saves.

Wyatt Johnston scored a power-play goal, and Jake Oettinger made 14 saves for the Stars (16-9-0), who failed to win a fourth consecutive game for the first time since the start of the season (Oct. 10-15).

“You know a team’s going to come out hard when you’re up 2-0 after the first period on the road, so, I mean, that’s just kind of on us to be ready for it and come back,” Johnston said.

DAL@LAK: Foegele buries wraparound for go-ahead goal in 3rd

Foegele put the Kings ahead 3-2 on a wraparound 2:22 into the third period.

Jeannot cut it to 2-1 at 4:40 of the second period by putting in his own rebound at the right post after his initial backhand went wide and caromed off the boards.

Foegele had the assist on Jeannot’s third goal, and Jeannot had the assist on Foegele’s seventh goal. It was Jeannot’s first multipoint game for Los Angeles, and the second for Foegele (two goals in a 3-2 win against the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 24).

“They’re just hard workers,” Edmundson said. “The way the game was going, it was going to be a couple of greasy goals, and they’re just around the net. That’s their game, and nothing too flashy. … And every team needs guys like that.”

Kings coach Jim Hiller credited the line of Foegele, Jeannot and center Quinton Byfield for showing the toughness that had been lacking in the first period through their forechecking.

“We hadn’t established anything in the O-zone before they got that going in the second period,” Hiller said. “Then we had some consecutive shifts. But we needed that goal [from Jeannot]. … I thought that goal was probably the biggest goal of the night, just kind of get us back and get us a bit of a reward for coming out strong in the second.”

DAL@LAK: Edmundson ties the game with one-timer in 2nd

Edmundson tied it 2-2 at 15:38 on a slap shot from Kyle Burroughs off a face-off win by Anze Kopitar. It was Edmundson’s fourth goal, most among Los Angeles defensemen.

“I’m just finding a way right now,” Edmundson said. “I think it’s a lot of credit to the forwards getting to the net. I’m not scoring any of those from the points without a screen.”

Johnston put the Stars up 1-0 at 2:34 of the first period on the power play, putting his own rebound in between Rittich’s legs from the top of the crease.

“I’m just trying to find some open space, and [Jason Robertson] made the great play,” Johnston said. “Tried to get a shot off, and lucky enough, got the rebound.”

DAL@LAK: Marchment doubles the lead in the 1st

Mason Marchment made it 2-0 at 13:40 on a wrist shot from the edge of the right circle. Logan Stankoven forced a takeaway along the boards before finding Marchment for his 11th goal of the season.

“Up two, it’s definitely a really good opportunity to win,” Johnston said. “Didn’t do a good enough job to keep playing and ultimately finish off the other team.”

NOTES: The Kings have allowed six goals during their winning streak. They have held seven of their past eight opponents to two goals or fewer (6-2-0). … The Stars were 1-for-2 on the power play. They are 6-for-24 (25 percent) on the man-advantage in their past seven games. … The Kings used 11 forwards and seven defensemen, with Burroughs coming in for the first time since Nov. 7.
