Flyers at Lightning | Recap

TAMPA -- Owen Tippett scored, and Ivan Fedotov made 23 saves for the Philadelphia Flyers in a 2-1 shootout win against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Thursday.

Travis Konecny and Tippett scored in the shootout for the Flyers (5-8-1), who snapped a two-game skid. Fedotov stopped both shots in the shootout to earn his first NHL win.

"I felt a little bit off in the first half of the game," Fedotov said. "Because you have to find the rhythm of the game ... how you have to do everything like stop the puck. After that, it was better. We had a great win. Great job from everyone. It's a great team win."

Nikita Kucherov scored for the Lightning (7-6-1), who have lost four straight. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 31 saves.

"Unfortunately, you don't close out every single game and this one was [not] a close out ... that's how you [get] points," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "Right now, we're not [getting] them. When you leave points out there, unfortunately you can't get them back. And you're hoping that the tide will turn."

Kucherov gave Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead at 19:15 of the first period with a wraparound goal, tucking the puck past Fedotov on his forehand.

"They came out and played a good game. I thought we pushed as well and they just came up with the two points," Lightning forward Brandon Hagel said. "I think we're in a good spot. We're not getting blown out. We need to tighten some things up. We're battling and we're working, but just a couple of mistakes and it seems like they are ending up in the back of the net."

Tippett tied the game 1-1 at 15:44 of the third period after he took control of the puck off a turnover and flipped a backhand shot past Vasilevskiy’s right shoulder.

"There are not a lot of goals that are coming right now," Tippett said. "But we are focusing on how we play defensively and jumping on chances when we can."

Fedotov was not supposed to start the game, but goalie Aleksei Kolosov suffered a lower-body injury during the morning skate.

"It was a surprise for me," Fedotov said. "Something happened. I don't know exactly what happened. Coaches came to me and told me to be ready and, ‘We'll let you know,’ but you have to be ready."

"I thought [Fedotov] competed hard, and I don't think there was a lot of extra movement in his game,” Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said. “He just seemed more confident, and he competed hard."

NOTES: Vasilevskiy is 0-2-1 since winning his 299th NHL game on Oct. 30 against the Colorado Avalanche. ... Flyers forward Anthony Richard made his season debut and was minus-1 with two shots on goal in 16:44. ... Kucherov has nine points (three goals, six assists) during a five-game point streak.
