      Lightning at Hurricanes | Recap

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Seth Jarvis scored in his third straight, and the Carolina Hurricanes extended their winning streak to five games with a 4-1 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Lenovo Center on Tuesday.

Jordan Martinook, Jack Roslovic and Sean Walker also scored for the Hurricanes (39-22-4), who have won six of seven. Pyotr Kochetkov made 23 saves.

“That’s a special group out there, and our goalie played really well.” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “‘Kooch’ was dynamite really. We didn’t give up a heck of a lot, and when we did, he was there. So that was the difference in the game.”

Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov left the game after the second period and did not return. Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper did not have an update.

Kucherov is third in the NHL this season with 92 points (28 goals, 64 assists).

Gage Goncalves scored for the Lightning (37-23-4), who have lost two in a row after winning 10 of 11. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves.

“For the first 30 minutes, I really liked our game," Cooper said. “You could probably make a good argument that we should have been ahead and not behind. The problem is we didn’t stick with it.”

Jarvis scored a short-handed goal with two seconds remaining on the penalty kill to give Carolina a 1-0 lead at 4:29 of the first period. He took a pass from Sebastian Aho and gathered the puck on his backhand in the left circle before scoring on a snap shot over Vasilevskiy’s left shoulder.

“We know how it is on the other side, on the power play,” Jarvis said. “When you find a bounce, when you find a 50-50 puck (where) you kind of cheat a little bit but be aware of what you’re doing, it leads to those chances.”

TBL@CAR: Jarvis opens scoring with SHG

One of Kochetkov’s best saves came in the first period, when the Lightning outshot the Hurricanes 10-8, on Jake Guentzel’s wrist shot from the left circle at 6:57.

“Some huge saves on some of their really good players,” Walker said. “That can be deflating for a team when you see a goalie just on his game constantly. That was huge for us, and he’s done it all year.”

Martinook made it 2-0 at 12:56 of the second period when he intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, then skated into the right circle and scored on a backhand that went between Vasilevskiy’s left pad and the right post.

“We had like a two-and-a-half-minute span where we turned the puck over,” Cooper said. “They end up getting that second one and it took a little bit of life out of us. After that, we were just chasing it.”

Roslovic extended it to 3-0 at 19:15 after scoring off the rush. Taylor Hall made a cross-ice pass to Roslovic, who finished with a snap shot for his 100th NHL goal.

“(Hall) slowed down just a little bit, and he made a great pass, great play,” Roslovic said.

Goncalves cut it to 3-1 at 4:38 of the third period with a goal from above the hash marks after cutting from the right circle.

Walker then scored on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle at 6:26 for the 4-1 final.

“At the end of the day, it’s a 60-minute game,” Tampa Bay captain Victor Hedman said. “They’re a good team and when you give them chances, they’ll come at you.”

NOTES: Tampa Bay played with 11 forwards and seven defensemen. …Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov missed the game with an undisclosed injury, and defenseman Dmitry Orlov missed his second straight with an upper-body injury. … Kochetkov established a career high with his 24th win of the season (24-11-3).
