Shesterkin’s assist came on Eeli Tolvanen’s empty netter late in the third period. The goalie played the puck behind the net and passed it ahead to Will Cuylle, who quickly took a shot towards the empty net but missed.
After the miss, the puck bounced right to Tolvanen, and the forward put it away, giving Shesterkin the secondary assist.
Shesterkin got some hugs from his teammates after recording his second point in the last three games.
Just four games into the new season, Shesterkin’s two points sets his single-season career high.
The Rangers next take the ice on Tuesday against the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden (7:30 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN+).
