Michkov first pitch

Matvei Michkov was feeling the brotherly love on Monday.

The Philadelphia Flyers rookie swapped out the hockey stick for a baseball glove for one night to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Philadelphia Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Before the pitch, Michkov met Phillies manager Rob Thomson and the two traded gifts. Michkov gave Thomson a hockey stick (which he then signed), and in return Thomson gifted the rookie with a personalized Phillies jersey.

A few of Michkov’s new teammates were in attendance to see him throw a strike before the game. Cam York, Tyson Foerster and Joel Farabee all joined Michkov at the ballpark.

Michkov signed a three-year contract with the Flyers on July 1. The forward, selected with the No. 7 pick of the 2023 NHL Draft, will be able to play for the Flyers this season after his contract with SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League was terminated.

So far, it looks like he’ll fit right into the Philadelphia sports scene.
