"Toronto, when we played them last year, earlier this year, they were really skating. I thought we outskated them tonight," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. "At least that's how I saw it. ... I liked the way we skated. We were winning pucks and we're killing plays in the neutral zone, getting back and re-attacking them. I thought that was the difference in the game, us being able to sustain that transition game where we were back in their end and eventually wear them down."
Mitchell Marner scored, and Frederik Andersen made 26 saves for the Maple Leafs (30-19-5), who had won their past six games against Boston, two this season.
"If you don't have everyone on deck and you're not ready to go, you're not going to win very often," Toronto coach Mike Babcock said. "So I thought we've done a good job of that of late, and I didn't think we got that tonight. Just didn't have enough players in there, and when the game was there after one [period] and you hadn't been great, it's time for pushback. We didn't have a pushback."
Bergeron scored from the slot at 4:29 of the first period for a 1-0 lead after a back pass from Danton Heinen.

Marner scored a power-play goal to tie the score 1-1 at 8:03. His slap shot from the right face-off dot went off Bruins forward Sean Kuraly's stick out high and then off defenseman Charlie McAvoy's stick at the top of the crease before entering the net.
Rask was at his best in the second period, making seven saves, including a spectacular stop on Tyler Bozak during an early Toronto power play. After Rask made the initial save on Marner's shot from the top of the right circle, he dove across the crease and batted Bozak's shot off the rebound out of the air to keep the score 1-1.
"Unreal in the second period. That's one that could be a swing in the game right there, could give them a lot of life," Cassidy said. "Gives us some juice, big save like that we want to go get him a goal right after that. I didn't think he was too busy to the point where he had to stand on his head, but that was a stand-on-your-head type save and was very, very timely."
Pastrnak scored a power-play goal at 9:22 of the second period for a 2-1 Boston lead. He drove to the net and beat Andersen to the short side with a wrist shot.
Krug made it 3-1 with a power-play goal at 16:47 before Schaller scored into an empty net with 1:39 remaining in the third period for a 4-1 lead.

They said it

"We didn't help the 'D' enough. We didn't track back and get open for our D-men. We need to work to be successful and tonight I don't think we were helping out our D-men too much."-- Maple Leafs forward Mitchell Marner
"It's one of those I actually had pretty good patience on that. I waited for the puck to get there and then dove. Good timing, right play. Skill and luck, I guess, combined." -- Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask on his save on Tyler Bozak
