BOSTON -- Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves for the Boston Bruins in a 4-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden on Thursday.

David Pastrnak, Trent Frederic and Morgan Geekie scored, and Brad Marchand and Jake DeBrusk each had two assists for the Bruins (37-13-15), who have won three of their past five (3-1-1).

“I thought offensively, conversely to Tuesday night (a 2-1 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers), we had more juice and we were going,” Boston coach Jim Montgomery said. “And they looked a little tired from being on a back-to-back, to be honest.”

Mitch Marner scored, and Joseph Woll made 22 saves for the Maple Leafs (36-19-8), who have lost two of their past three (1-2-0) and were coming off a 2-1 overtime win against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.

“Credit to Boston, they played a good game again here tonight against us, but I liked a lot of things about our game here tonight,” Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. “In particular, the competitiveness of our team in what was by far and away the most physical game that we’ve played this season.”

TOR@BOS: Pastrnak bureis a one-timer on the 2-man advantage

Pastrnak gave Boston a 1-0 lead on a 5-on-3 power play at 5:37 of the first period after DeBrusk fed him at the top of the left face-off circle from the goal line.

Frederic made it 2-0 at 4:16 of the second period, stealing the puck from Toronto forward William Nylander at Boston’s blue line before scoring five-hole on Woll on a breakaway.

“These teams are so talented offensively, obviously, and they can find seam passes,” Swayman said. “But to see our guys take an extra initiative blocking seam passes, blocking shots, clearing rebounds, that’s playoff hockey and that’s something that we really want to build on moving forward.”

Marner cut it to 2-1 at 7:56 on the power play. Bruins forward Danton Heinen misplayed a pass to Marchand while taking the puck out, and Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren sent it off the boards to Marner, who beat Swayman with a wrist shot from the right circle on a rush.

“Both teams looked good,” Woll said. “It was a playoff-style game. Ultimately, it’s a couple breaks that go in one way or the other, so just for me, it’s important to stay dialed in for the full 60 (minutes) and to keep understanding that one or two goals make or break a game.”

Geekie extended it to 3-1 at 17:16 with a power-play goal. Kevin Shattenkirk took the rebound of Pavel Zacha’s shot from the slot and sent it to Geekie in the right circle for his fifth goal in five games.

“They made it hard on us to create offense, I think,” Toronto defenseman Morgan Rielly said. “They manage the puck. They don’t make a lot of mistakes. Their special teams is good, obviously, and they’re at the top of the standings year-to-year for a reason.”

Brandon Carlo pushed it to 4-1 at 18:23 with a shot from the point.

The Bruins completed the season sweep against Toronto (6-0-0) for the first time since 2011-12.

“No matter what happens (in the regular season), it means nothing,” Marchand said. “Once playoff time starts, it’s a whole new season.”

NOTES: Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies left at 12:32 of the first period with an apparent upper-body injury, but Keefe had no update on his status after the game. … Marchand got his 100th multiassist game in the NHL. He is the ninth Bruins player to reach the milestone. ... Toronto acquired defenseman Joel Edmundson in a trade with the Washington Capitals on Thursday for a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. The Capitals will retain 50 percent of Edmundson’s salary.
