CAR@TOR: Matthews deflects in Tavares' shot for a PPG

It was the appropriate day to get a lucky bounce.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, clad in their green-and-white Toronto St. Pats throwback jerseys for a game against the Carolina Hurrianes at Scotiabank Arena on Friday, celebrated St. Patrick's Day with a little bit o' luck.
In the final minues of the opening period, Maple Leafs forward John Tavares entered the zone and started toward the net. Teammate Auston Matthews, who had just dished Tavares the puck, broke for the net.
Tavares fired a shot in the direction of the net. The puck hit the heel of the right skate of Hurricanes defenseman Brett Pesce and, somehow, deflected into Matthews' right leg and found the net behind Hurricanes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov.
Matthews couldn't help but crack a smile when the puck crossed the goal line.
Was it a pass? A shot? Where was Tavares aiming?
Does it matter?
Not on St. Patrick's Day it doesn't.
