PITTSBURGH -- Frederik Andersen made 31 saves, and Morgan Rielly scored twice to help the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday.

Toronto (9-5-0) won for the first time in three games without Auston Matthews, who is out with a shoulder injury. John Tavares had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Marleau and Zach Hyman also scored for the Maple Leafs.
The shutout was Andersen's first this season and 16th of his NHL career. He has stopped 67 of 68 shots in two games against the Penguins this season, including 36 of 37 in a 3-0 loss Oct. 18.
"It's a tough building against a really good team," Andersen said. "It's an extra bonus and I'm happy with the win. Get back on track here. ... We have to build on it. We have to start stringing them together again. Hopefully this will be a good lesson for us to see how good we can come out."

Matt Murray made 26 saves for the Penguins (6-3-3), who have lost three straight (0-2-1) after winning their previous four.
"The reality is the NHL season is a long season," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. "There's lots of ups and downs. You win a few games in a row and you feel good about yourself. This league has a funny way of humbling you. Right now, I think we've been humbled. We didn't deserve to win tonight."

Tavares gave Toronto a 1-0 lead at 9:34 of the first period after scoring one goal in his previous nine games. He deflected a shot from Mitchell Marner for his eighth goal of the season.
Marleau made it 2-0 44 seconds into the second period. After receiving a pass from Kasperi Kapanen, Marleau went forehand to backhand around Murray and toppled over the Penguins goalie into the net with the puck crossing the line before the net came off its moorings.
Murray skated to the Penguins bench to have his skate checked following the goal. He left during the first television timeout of the second period before returning at 9:37 of that period.

Murray said the inside edge of his skate blew out, making it difficult to stand.
Casey DeSmith stopped each of the two shots he faced in relief.
"I don't think we've been at our best, for sure," Murray said. "It's stuff that's easily correctible, I think, so we just have to focus on our game."
Rielly extended the lead to 3-0 by shooting over Murray's glove at 11:49 of the second before making it 4-0 with a power-play goal at 15:33 of the third. He said replacing Matthews' production must be a collective effort.

"I think there are lots of guys that can take that responsibility," Rielly said. "Guys are willing and able to accept more responsibility and more minutes and bigger situations. That's a strength of this team is the depth. It's important we make sure that we're focused and have guys that are willing to take that responsibility the next few games."
Hyman pushed it to 5-0 with 20 seconds remaining.

They said it

"We lost a couple and we thought we were going in the right direction the last game. We didn't get rewarded. We just stuck with it and were determined tonight. In the end, found a way to win a game. ... What I like to do is just be steady on the rudder. The season always has these ebbs and flows. You enjoy it when it's going good, and you enjoy the duress when it's not." -- Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock
"We expected them to come hard. We didn't play well. ... I think they played faster. I think we're capable of playing faster, but I think they did a better job of it. ... We got beat tonight. That's the bottom line. I don't think it's because we're not fast enough. We're more than fast enough." -- Penguins captain Sidney Crosby
