"The lights went out right as [Zach] Hyman passed me the puck on a drill," Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews said. "I had no idea what was going on. I think I scored, actually. Freddy [Frederik Andersen] told me I scored, so yeah, nobody knows."
The Maple Leafs stayed on the ice for about 15 minutes. When it became clear the outage wasn't temporary, the session ended.
"We did stop our practice, we stopped the drill we were doing," coach Mike Babcock said. "What, they can't skate in the dark or what?"
Defenseman Connor Carrick said, "I've actually had that happen to me a couple of times in my pro career. It happened during a couple of long skates out there too. It was convenient, I guess. I didn't really know what to think."
The Maple Leafs are 5-5-3 this season. They had a season-low 19 shots against the Kings and were put through the paces with an intense bag skate, the first of its kind this season.
"Well, I mean, we got slapped, right? Obviously we don't feel very good about ourselves," Babcock said. "We were embarrassed out [of] the building. We can't play like that. We can't compete like that. You can't be the way we were."
The Maple Leafs host the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday (7 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, TSN4, TCN-PH, NHL.TV).
