The defenseman is out week to week. He was injured during a season-opening, 5-2 loss at the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. The teams play at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday (10 p.m. ET; CBC, SN360, CITY, SNW, NHL.TV).
"It's a guy out of your top four (defensemen), right?" Flames coach Bill Peters said. "He'll do everything he can to get back quick. It's an opportunity for others now. Other guys have to step up and play."
Peters said the first defense pair of captain Mark Giordano and TJ Brodie will remain intact, with Michael Stone moving to the second pair with Noah Hanifin, and Juuso Valimaki and
Dalton Prout
playing as the third pair.
Defenseman
Rasmus Andersson
was recalled from Stockton of the American Hockey League on Friday but is not expected to play Saturday.
"Right now, if we go the way we talked about today, Stone will play with Hanifin and that'll allow him to be in the top four," Peters said. "A real good opportunity for him and an opportunity for Prout."
Andersson, 21, was scoreless in 10 games with the Flames last season and had 39 points (nine goals, 30 assists) in 56 games with Stockton. He was selected in the second round (No. 53) by Calgary in the 2015 NHL Draft.
