Trevor Daley signed with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL on Thursday.

The 38-year-old defenseman, who was selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round (No. 43) of the 2002 NHL Draft, scored 309 points (89 goals, 220 assists) in 1,058 regular-season games over 16 seasons with the Stars, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings. He also scored 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 71 Stanley Cup Playoff games, including winning the Cup with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017.
Daley last played in the NHL in the 2019-20 season, when he had seven assists in 43 games with the Red Wings. He announced his retirement on Oct. 26, 2020, and is working for the Penguins as a hockey operations adviser.
The Penguins confirmed a report by DK Sports that Daley did not leave his role with the team and is helping the Everblades in the short term while they navigate through roster issues caused by COVID-19 .
Daley debuted for Florida on Friday, when he was plus-1 with one shot on goal in an 8-3 win against South Carolina. He appeared in a video posted on the Everblades Twitter account earlier Friday indicating he would play.
"Hey guys, Trevor Daley here, looking forward having you guys out the game tonight," Daley said. "Can't wait to see you."

"Honestly, I'm just so happy I got to play hockey," Daley told NHL.com after announcing his retirement. "The accolades are whatever comes with it, but just being a hockey player has made me who I am today and [given me] the family I have today. That's the main thing and only thing I really look at is that part of it. The relationships you have along the way, you get to cherish them and those last forever, which is great. They never leave. I'm so grateful, honestly, for the opportunity I'm getting and I'm so grateful that I got to play this game. I'm just going to continue on respecting it and seeing where it goes."
The Everblades have been the developmental affiliate for the Nashville Predators and Milwaukee of the American Hockey League since 2019-20.
