Zegras pulls off 'The Michigan,' scores amazing lacrosse-style goal

Trevor Zegras already has a Michigan assist, so why not score a Michigan goal.

The Anaheim Ducks rookie forward scored an incredible lacrosse-style goal, known as "The Michigan" for the University of Michigan's Mike Legg, who popularized it, against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
Zegras, you may remember, dished out one of the
most unique assists
anyone in hockey has ever seen earlier this season, when he put the puck on his stick and flipped it over the net to teammate Sonny Milano, who batted it in for a goal against the Buffalo Sabres.
This time around, Zegras took matters into his own hands, smoothly skating down the right side, picking up the loose puck from a three-man scrum like it was nothing, and casually depositing it over the right shoulder of Canadiens goalie Sam Montembeault.

During the intermission interview, Zegras said he "had a fresh tape job so I figured I'd give it a try."

After the game, Zegras, who attemped the move before but hadn't scored with it, talked about why he's gone to it so often.
"It's just one of those things where I think it's a high percentage play if you can pick it up on your stick. I don't think a lot of goalies are, I guess, expecting it," Zegras said. "But it's one of those things where if I have a little bit of space behind the net, I mean, I really don't see why not. It's almost like a wraparound. It's something that I work on quite a bit. It's nice to see it translate over."
Zegras also joked that he tried the move "

," a joking reference to the game being played at the empty Bell Centre.
Ducks forward Adam Henrique said, "That's his play. His skill level is next to none. And you know, the way the way it developed, it kind of set it up perfectly for him."
On Twitter, Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov, the only player to score with "The Michigan"
twice in the NHL
, lauded Zegras.

Count Hockey Hall of Fame forward and Ducks legend Teemu Selanne among those impressed.

Teammate Max Jones, who is sidelined with an injury, seemed to be out of words.

The USA Hockey National Team Development Program also shared its approval.

What can Zegras do for a Michigan hat trick? Does anyone even know?
