Motte had 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 58 regular-season games for the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers last season. He did not have a point in nine games with the Rangers after being traded March 21, but scored two goals in 15 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
"Tyler is a tenacious checker who plays the game with pace," Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said. "He's a strong penalty killer and another competitive person who adds to the depth of our group."
Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round (No. 121) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Motte has 62 points (35 goals, 27 assists) in 269 regular-season games for the Rangers, Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Blackhawks and seven points (six goals, one assist) in 32 playoff games.
