Myers, Grimes set to become first siblings to play in NHL, NBA

Quentin Grimes helped make history for two leagues when he was selected by the New York Knicks in the 2021 NBA Draft on Thursday.

Grimes is the half-brother of Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers, and now the two are set to become the first siblings to play in the NBA and NHL.
Myers' father, Paul, moved to Calgary from Houston, Texas for a job opportunity and Tyler, who was 10 at the time, moved with him to pursue hockey. Paul was a former college hockey player.
Grimes, born to their mother, Tonja Stelly, and former Louisiana Tech point guard, Marshall Grimes, was just a few months old when Tyler moved to Canada.
"I would love for us to be the first NHL and NBA brothers," Grimes
told USA Today
in 2018. "My mom (would be) ecstatic to have two of her sons in two different leagues. We get the genes from her so gotta give her all the credit."
Although they never grew up in the same household, they managed to develop a brotherly relationship over the years through Myers' visits to Texas, and through calls and texts. Grimes played for Kansas his freshman year, declared for the NBA, then withdrew and transferred to Houston. And Myers was happy to lend advice and support to his little brother.
"We just didn't spend a lot of time together growing up with the big age difference and him being down in Texas,"

while Grimes' Houston Cougars were in their run to the Final Four. "But I always hope for the best for him and you take a look at what he's been able to do throughout his university career here. He went through some adversity early on and the work he's put in to get where he is today shows what he's made of and I'm really happy for him."
