"That's been the goal all along," the 26-year-old center said during the NHL Player Media Tour on Thursday. "I envision hopefully having something done. They've been talking now. My agent has been talking to the team. Hopefully something will get done before camp."
The Stars begin training camp at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho, on Sept. 14, and open the regular season at home against the Arizona Coyotes on Oct. 4.
Dallas general manager Jim Nill told the Stars website Friday that talks are progressing and he hopes to have a contract worked out before the season begins.
"With negotiations, you never know," Nill said. "But I think both parties would like to get it done before (the season). I think it's always been the plan to get it done before the season starts.
"There's good dialogue. I get back to that I am not going to negotiate in the media, so I am not going to say what's going on. But there's good movement on both sides."
