Pettersson powers Canucks past Ducks

ANAHEIM -- Elias Pettersson surpassed 100 points on the season with two assists for the Vancouver Canucks in a 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Tuesday.

Pettersson, who has 101 points, is the sixth player in Canucks history to record 100 in a season, joining Pavel Bure, Alexander Mogilny, Markus Naslund, Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin.
"It means that I can breathe out again," Pettersson said of reaching the milestone. "I'm very happy with it. Something I didn't think about before the season."

J.T. Miller scored the go-ahead goal at 1:26 of the third period and had an assist, and Thatcher Demko made 33 saves for Vancouver (37-37-7), which has won three of four.
"When you don't make the playoffs, you look for [little] victories and having a guy that gets 100 points is nice, but now we want team goals," Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said. "I love that 'Petey' got it, but it's better if we start having more team goals than the individual stats, for me."
Drew Helleson scored his first NHL goal, Mason McTavish also scored and Lukas Dostal made 33 saves for Anaheim (23-46-12), which has lost 12 in a row (0-10-2) to match the longest skid in franchise history.
Helleson made his NHL debut Sunday in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
"It was great to see 'Helly' score," said Ducks forward Benoit-Olivier Groulx, who was recalled from San Diego of the American Hockey League on Tuesday, two days after Helleson. "Since the start of the season with [San Diego], he's probably been our top defenseman. It's just really good to see him get rewarded in the NHL."

The Ducks and Canucks combined to go 3-for-4 on power plays in the first period.
Brock Boeser made it 1-0 at 12:14 of the first period on a one-timer near the post after Pettersson's pass in the right face-off circle. The assist was Pettersson's 100th point.
Boeser quickly retrieved the keepsake from the net for Pettersson, who credited his teammates for helping him reach the milestone.
"I'm not playing by myself out there," Pettersson said. "It's a team game and it's been some tough times this season, but we've battled all year."
Kuzmenko made it 2-0 at 16:12 on the power play, scoring his 39th goal of the season. Demko left the puck for defenseman Akito Hirose in front of the crease, and he made a long stretch pass to Kuzmenko for a breakaway.
Mason McTavish cut it to 2-1 at 17:20 on the power play with a one-timer from the right circle.
Helleson tied it 2-2 at 15:32 of the second period on a slap shot off the post from the right point.
"It was [Trevor Zegras] that won a battle in the neutral zone and then he kicked it out to [Troy Terry]," Helleson said of his scoring play. "[Terry] turned up and he passed the puck and I just tried to get it on net, and luckily it went in."
Miller gave Vancouver a 3-2 lead at 1:26 of the third period after scoring off a rebound on Phillip Di Giuseppe's shot from the right circle.
