McDavid wins Art Ross Trophy, Oilers top Canucks in shootout

EDMONTON --Connor McDavid won his second consecutive Art Ross Trophy, and the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in a shootout at Rogers Place on Saturday.
McDavid had two assists to finish with 108 points (41 goals, 67 assists), six points ahead of Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux (34 goals, 68 assists).

"It's good," McDavid said. "Obviously not the season we wanted to have, but personally was able to find a little success. But we've got a long ways to go."

McDavid, 21, is the second player to win two NHL scoring titles before his 22nd birthday. Wayne Gretzky won the NHL scoring race in 1981, at age 20, and 1982, at 21.
"That's pretty special, yeah," said McDavid, who had 100 points (30 goals, 70 assists) last season. "That's some pretty good company to be a part of. It definitely means a lot. I've got my teammates to thank for everything, they were helping me a lot down the stretch and doing everything they can."

"We wanted to finish the season strong at home in front of our fans," Talbot said. "We wanted to finish the season above .500 at home as well, which was a big goal for us. We got to accomplish that tonight (19-18-4) and head into the offseason feeling a little bit better about ourselves."
Jussi Jokinen and Tyler Motte scored for Vancouver (31-40-11), and Anders Nilsson made 31 saves. Daniel Sedin and Jokinen scored in the shootout.
Sedin and his twin brother Henrik played their final NHL game.

"We've been with a lot of these guys for a long time," Daniel Sedin said. "There are a lot of new guys too that have come in and been awesome. It's been a pleasure. I think we're playing the right way, and as the team gets better it's going to show that. It's been fun to be a part of, but now it's time to move on."
Edmonton and Vancouver did not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
"It's been an amazing week, really," Canucks coach Travis Green said. "I know they're happy and we're all happy too. It was nice to go through it."
Draisaitl scored on the power play at 13:52 of the first period to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead. He took a cross-crease pass from McDavid and shot the puck over Nilsson.
Jokinen tied it 1-1 at 17:47, tipping in a shot from Michael Del Zotto.
Motte made it 2-1 at 11:45 of the second period, collecting a loose puck in the slot after a shot from the point was blocked in front.

Nugent-Hopkins tied it 2-2 at 14:10, converting a pass from McDavid.
"It was nice that it went to overtime and it kind of got a little more emotion into the game because they were out there and it's freewheeling and it's 3-on-3 and then the shootout," Green said about the Sedins. "But it was a game that you can tell the emotions weren't as high tonight as they were last game.
"That's just the nature of the beast, it's hard to manufacture it again after the big night on Thursday night. But I thought the Edmonton crowd was great, just the respect they paid to [Henrik] and [Daniel], a team that they battled for so long."
