Canucks unleash epic superhero movie introduction for home opener

There were heroes galore at the Vancouver Canucks' home opener.

On Tuesday, the Canucks played their first game at Rogers Arena this season and it was the first time they'd played in front of a full arena since March 10, 2020. So of course they had to make a big production out of it.
First was a mini comic book flick with Canucks players playing the roles of a variety of superheroes coming together to save the city from destruction. The four-minute cinematic masterpiece includes Elias Pettersson, Bo Horvat, Quinn Hughes, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and more preparing in a stunning array of locales before gathering in front of fans on their home ice.

Once they came back to reality, it was time to honor the heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Several front line workers were brought out for the ceremonial puck drop. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry rang the siren.
There was also a land acknowledgement from members of the Indigenous community.
For the anthems, Canadian singer Jugpreet Bajwa performed the "Star-Spangled Banner" and Dr. Sadiq Abdulla from B.C. Women's Hospital led the crowd in a singing of "O Canada."
The spectacle was befitting a grand return, but more blockbuster film introductions before games wouldn't hurt, especially if they include lightsaber hockey sticks.
