Once they came back to reality, it was time to honor the heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Several front line workers were brought out for the ceremonial puck drop. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry rang the siren.
There was also a land acknowledgement from members of the Indigenous community.
For the anthems, Canadian singer Jugpreet Bajwa performed the "Star-Spangled Banner" and Dr. Sadiq Abdulla from B.C. Women's Hospital led the crowd in a singing of "O Canada."
The spectacle was befitting a grand return, but more blockbuster film introductions before games wouldn't hurt, especially if they include lightsaber hockey sticks.
