VAN@WPG: Connor goes five-hole on Holtby for PPG

WINNIPEG -- Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler each scored a goal with two assists, and Mark Scheifele had three assists for the Winnipeg Jets in a 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Bell MTS Place on Tuesday.

Laurent Brossoit made 31 saves for the Jets (14-7-1), who split the back-to-back set following a 4-0 loss here Monday.
"That was really, really good tonight," Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice said. "[We were] driving pucks to the net, thinking shot first, and there was a lot more chaos around their net that we haven't seen from our team. There was lots of direct play with the mindset of pucks to the net."

VAN@WPG: Stastny finishes off Wheeler's feed

Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller scored, and Braden Holtby made 34 saves for the Canucks (9-15-2). Brock Boeser had two assists.
"We're not in a position to be splitting a two-game series," Miller said. "We need to come out with at least a point today. At least just put a better effort on the ice than that. … There's no excuses. We need to be better and push ourselves."
Mason Appleton scored on a rebound to give the Jets a 1-0 lead at 5:19 of the first period. Pettersson tied it 1-1 with a wrist shot from the left face-off circle at 8:34. It was his fifth goal in five games.
"We've got to be able to create more chances," Pettersson said. "More direct, simpler plays. We weren't good enough for 60 minutes, and definitely in the third period we've got to create."

VAN@WPG: Perreault lifts backhander past Holtby

Mathieu Perreault gave the Jets a 2-1 lead with three seconds left in the first period when he scored on a backhand. Connor made it 3-1 with a wrist shot from the right circle for a power-play goal at 5:04 of the second.
"We really didn't like our last game," Perreault said. "I know we're trying to simplify things in the [offensive] zone, try to get pucks low to high and have guys going to the net and we were able to do that tonight consistently and it showed in the result."
Miller scored on a one-timer from the right circle for a power-play goal with five seconds remaining the second to make it 3-2.
Paul Stastny gave the Jets a 4-2 lead when he one-timed a pass from Wheeler at 9:13 of the third period.
"Especially after they scored one to cut the lead to one, for us to play the way we did, I think that's the sign of a really good, elite team, not sitting back," Brossoit said. "Those are all those little things that take a lot of veteran leadership. We did a really good job of that tonight."
Wheeler scored an empty-net goal at 17:50 for the 5-2 final.
"Our guys wanted to push," Vancouver coach Travis Green said. "They wanted to have a good [third] period. They wanted to win. But the other team has a say in that.
"I thought we lost way too many puck battles tonight. I thought we were a little soft when we had the puck at times, and that was the difference in the game. That was a big difference. We tracked those things from the night before, and for me that was the major difference in the game."
NOTES: The Canucks are 0-13-0 this season when they allow the first goal. … It was the sixth time Scheifele had multiple assists; he has scored 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in his past 14 games. … Wheeler has scored nine points (two goals, seven assists) in his past five games. … Vancouver's Quinn Hughes had an assist and became the first NHL defenseman to have 20 this season.
