The Golden Knights reached 15 wins three games faster than the 1926-27 New York Rangers, who got off to a 15-7-3 start.
"We just kept finding a way," Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant said. "We didn't look good in the third period, but (Malcolm Subban) got some key saves and when the game got tight, we played well."
Subban made 23 saves in his first start since Oct. 21. He was activated from injured reserve on Nov. 17 after recovering from a lower-body injury.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Brendan Perlini scored in the third period for Arizona (6-17-3), which has lost two of its past three games after winning three in a row.

"We had a couple of chances," Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. "It's disheartening because it's certainly a winnable game."
Scott Wedgewood was pulled after Haula gave the Golden Knights a 3-0 lead at 9:05 of the second period and was replaced by Marek Langhamer. Wedgewood made 14 saves and Langhamer made 10 saves.
It was the third time in the past four games the Golden Knights chased the starting goaltender.
Jason Demers had a goal disallowed at 9:31 of the first period after Derek Stepan made contact with Subban before the puck crossed the goal line.
"I don't think we started well," Marchessault said. "It could've been 2-0, 3-0 them at one point. We're a team that plays at a high pace and we didn't do that."
Nosek scored shorthanded at 7:23 of the second period to give Vegas a 1-0 lead. Karlsson followed at 7:54, extending his goal streak to five games. He leads the Golden Knights with 13 goals.
Haula's power-play goal at 9:05 made it 3-0.

"We're not happy the way we played today," Karlsson said. "I thought Arizona was the better team overall. We've got stuff to work on before Tuesday (against the Dallas Stars)."
Ekman-Larsson scored his fifth goal of the season at 21 seconds of the third period to make it 3-1.
Perlini scored at 10:35.

They said it

"It's an easy fix for us. All year so far, it's been about working hard and working harder than the opponent. If we come back and do that and play for 60 minutes, we'll be fine." -- Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault
"We know the formula. With the first period, we were fine. Second period, we were dominating early, then we got fancy. It just snowballs from there. But once again, the guys didn't give up, so I give them a lot of credit for that." -- Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet
