Roy propels Golden Knights past Flames

CALGARY -- Logan Thompson made 37 saves before sustaining a lower-body injury in the Vegas Golden Knights' 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.

Thompson missed 18 games because of a lower-body injury and was making his first start since Feb. 9. He left the game with 6:07 remaining in the third period and was replaced by Jonathan Quick, who stopped all five shots he faced in relief to close out the victory.
"It's tough," Vegas forward Ivan Barbashev said. "He was really good, especially coming back off of injury. He was great all game long. Tough bounce for him. He was really good today for us."
Jonathan Marchessault, Michael Amadio and Nicolas Roy scored for the Golden Knights (45-21-6), who have won three in a row and 10 of 12.
Vegas, which is first in the Pacific Division, moved four points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings, and six ahead of the Edmonton Oilers.
"We find ways to win," Roy said. "I think every game there's a line that stands out and being healthy on [defense] makes a big difference since the All-Star break, goalies finding a way to steal a game as well. We're finding ways to win, and I think that's what is important at this point of the year."

Nazem Kadri and Milan Lucic scored, and Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves for the Flames (32-26-15), who have lost three of four.
"When it's big games, we need guys to step up and be big players," Lucic said. "We didn't have that tonight from everyone."
Calgary fell six points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference following Winnipeg's 3-2 win at the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.
"It's always disappointing to lose, especially the situation we're in," Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson said. "I don't know if its nerves, we're thinking about it too much. And we're not thinking about the game that we're playing if we're thinking about the situation we're in maybe a little bit too much.
"I don't know. It's of course a little bit frustrating. Nine games left and a lot of stuff can still happen."
Marchessault gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 11:43 of the first period, scoring on a shot by Markstrom's blocker on a 2-on-1.
Amadio made it 2-0 at 15:23, scoring on his own rebound on a partial breakaway. It was his 12th goal of the season, an NHL career high.

Lucic cut it to 2-1 at 19:02, driving the far post and chipping a shot over Thompson's right shoulder after taking a cross-ice pass from Walker Duehr.
"It's a tough one," Lucic said. "The effort was there in spurts. We're a team that relies on all four lines and all six [defensemen] to have success, and I don't think we've had that for a full 60 minutes. When you're down 2-0 and you're chasing the game, we weren't able to tie it up after that."
Lucic's goal came after Andrew Mangiapane appeared to have scored on the power play at 16:43, but the goal was overturned after video review determined he kicked the puck into the net.
Roy, in his first game back after missing 14 because of a lower-body injury, extended it to 3-1 at 5:19 of the third period. He deked backhand to forehand and lifted a shot over Markstrom's glove following a failed clear by Andersson.
"I'm just pretty happy to be back, honestly, and get the win," Roy said. "It was a big game. Calgary's got a great team, and it was a battle out there, so it was good to get the win."
Kadri made it 3-2 at 12:33 with a wrist shot from the slot on the power play, his first goal in 17 games.

Quick entered 1:20 later following Thompson's exit, and finished the game with five saves, including a right-pad stop on Andrew Mangiapane with 1:03 remaining, and another on MacKenzie Weegar in the slot with 59 seconds left.
"I don't know what happened, to be honest," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. "He just got up and left. I wish he would've taken his time so 'Quickie' would've had a little more time to warm up, to be honest with you.
"He knows his body; I have no idea. At the end of the day, let's hope it's not related to the previous injury and it's something that will be short term."
NOTES: Vegas forward Reilly Smith left the game at 2:54 of the third with a lower-body injury. Cassidy said neither Smith nor Thompson will be available against the Oilers on Saturday. Smith had a nine-game point streak end (four goals, seven assists). ... Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo has seven assists in a four-game point streak. ... Calgary is 0-18-3 when trailing after two periods. ... Flames forward Tyler Toffoli had a four-game point streak end (three goals, six assists).
