SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Vegas Golden Knights lost their fourth straight regular-season game for the first time since entering the NHL last season when they were defeated 3-1 by he Florida Panthers at BB&T Center on Saturday.

"It happens to everybody … maybe not Tampa Bay]," Vegas goalie Marc-Andre Fleury said. "Everybody has ups and downs in a season, and it's important to find a way to make it last not too long, to get out of it as quickly as possible and start over. It's frustrating because we're not used to this. We've got to find a way to get out of this streak, this bad streak quickly."
Mike Hoffman scored the go-ahead goal at 6:13 of the third period and James Reimer made 34 saves for the Panthers, who are 4-1-0 in their past five games. Aleksander Barkov had a goal and an assist, and Frank Vatrano scored an empty-net goal with 1:16 remaining for the 3-1 final.

Derick Brassard had the lone assist on Hoffman's goal in his first game with the Panthers after being acquired with Riley Sheahan in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
Hoffman made it 2-1 when he came in a breakaway after chipping the puck past Vegas forward William Karlsson in the neutral zone and beat Fleury by slipping the puck between his pads after a deke to his forehand.
"It was a nice goal by Hoffman," Brassard said. "When the game was 1-1 we needed someone to step up, and Hoffman did a good job there. We have a lot of games coming [that] we have to take advantage of if we're going to make a playoff push.
"Tonight is a good start. This team is really close to being there and we're trying to help out."

Florida (21-21-8) is nine points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
Max Pacioretty scored and Fleury made 22 saves for the Golden Knights (29-21-4), who had three three-game losing streaks in their inaugural season and one earlier this season.
With Vegas' next game on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have the best record in the NHL, coach Gerard Gallant said his message to his players was simple.
"Get ready for the next one," he said. "We can't do nothing about tonight or the last three games. We've got to get ready for the next game and play hard. We're going to play against the top team in the League in Tampa Bay, so it's going to be a battle, but hopefully that'll get us back to where we want to be."
Barkov gave Florida a 1-0 lead by beating Fleury with a wrist shot from the right circle 12 seconds into the game. It was the fourth-fastest goal from the start of a game in Panthers history and the fastest in a home game.
Pacioretty made it 1-1 at 8:07 with a shot between Reimer's legs after he deked past diving defenseman Mike Matheson.
Florida's Evgenii Dadonov was awarded a penalty shot with 58 seconds left in the first period after being hooked from behind by Brayden McNabb, but his shot went off the crossbar after hitting Fleury's thigh.
Despite being outshot 14-6, Florida had the best scoring chance of the second period when Jonathan Huberdeau had a breakaway, but Fleury stopped him with a pad save.
"We're allowing the big chance right now," Pacioretty said. "Obviously against teams with firepower like them, they're going to make you pay. We had opportunities to go up and then to tie as well and we just weren't able to do so."

They said it

"They better be frustrated because they've got to play better. They've got to play harder and work harder. It's all about winning hockey games. We played good enough to win again tonight, but we didn't win. We're making mistakes and it's costing us. Just play a simple game. We played real good for probably 55 minutes, but we just seem to give up those big plays and it hurt us." -- Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant
"I really liked our first 10 minutes. Vegas is obviously a real good team and they play fast. We had to match their pace tonight. I know they lost a few in a row. They were coming in obviously a little peeved off and looking for a big win. The first goal [on the] first shift helped. I thought it gave us a little bit of enthusiasm and an energy." -- Panthers coach Bob Boughner
