The Vegas Golden Knights officially said goodbye to 2021 Vezina Trophy winner Marc-Andre Fleury when they traded him to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.
But Sunday there was a much more emotional farewell. The team took out a full-page ad in the Sunday edition of the Las Vegas Review-Journal as a tribute to their former player. The ad read "Thank You Marc-Andre Fleury" in giant gold letters and featured the veteran goalie's stats and accomplishments with the Golden Knights from the past four seasons. It also featured a long open letter to Fleury thanking him not only for the on-ice success, but for his work in the community and helping the city heal after the city's tragic mass shooting in 2017. Sunday was also the same day Fleury's new team shared a video of him saying he was all in for the 2021-22 season.
"Hey Chicago it's Marc," Fleury said in the short clip. "Just want to let you know I'm in so let's get to work." Fleury was 117-60-14 with a .917 save percentage and 2.41 goals-against average in four seasons with Vegas. The Blackhawks will visit T-Mobile Arena on January 8.
