Victor Mete signed a one-year, $735,000 contract to remain with the Montreal Canadiens on Friday.
The 22-year-old defenseman, who could have become a restricted free agent at noon ET Friday, scored 11 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 51 games with the Canadiens last season and two assists in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Selected by Montreal in the fourth round (No. 100) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Mete has 31 points (four goals, 27 assists) in 171 regular-season games.
