WSH@ANA: Getzlaf earns 1,000th point on Fowler's goal

ANAHEIM --Ryan Getzlaf scored his 1,000th NHL point to help the Anaheim Ducks win their eighth straight game, 3-2 in overtime against the Washington Capitals at Honda Center on Tuesday.

Getzlaf became the first Anaheim player, and seventh active NHL player, to reach the milestone when he had the primary assist on a goal by Cam Fowler that gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 3:32 of the first period. Troy Terry had the secondary assist to extend his point streak to 15 games (11 goals, 10 assists).
"I'm just trying to do what I can do out there to the best of my abilities," Getzlaf said. "I still feel like I'm producing and challenging guys around me."
Trevor Zegras scored his second goal of the game with 46 seconds remaining in overtime for Anaheim (10-4-3), which won the 1,000th game in its history. John Gibson made 28 saves.
"How is it that we get our 1,000th win, and our hotshot rookie wins the game for us, (and) our captain gets his 1,000th point?" Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "It's unbelievable."

Garrett Pilon scored his first NHL goal, and Vitek Vanecek made 28 saves for Washington (9-2-5), which had won four straight.
"You've got to show up and play everybody hard," Washington coach Peter Laviolette said. "[The Ducks] are off to a good start, and they get a lot of contributions from not only their offense, but their defense as well."
After Fowler gave Anaheim the lead, Nick Jensen appeared to tie it at 4:58 of the first period, but Eakins challenged the play for offside, and the call was reversed after a video review.
Vanecek kept it a one-goal game when he stopped Terry on a 2-on-0 breakaway before lunging to knock away the rebound attempt from Mason McTavish at 18:35 of the second period.
Gibson then made a glove save from in close on Trevor van Riemsdyk with 33 seconds left in the second to preserve the lead..
"They scored and we were kind of chasing the game the whole time," Laviolette said.
Pilon tied it 1-1 at 5:36 of the third period when he tipped in a point shot from Martin Fehervary.
Zegras put the Ducks back in front 2-1 at 10:00, shooting five-hole on Vanecek after receiving a backhand pass from Sonny Milano. Zegras has scored four goals in his past two games.

Tom Wilson tied it 2-2 at 17:28 with a deflection of John Carlson's shot.
"It was kind of just the perfect story, 1,000 points (for Getzlaf), 1,000th win for the franchise came in overtime versus a really good hockey team over there," Zegras said. "Giving up that goal late, we were obviously a little rattled, but I think everybody kind of rallied for that overtime and it was nice to get the win."
