CAPITALS (13-7-2) at LIGHTNING (13-11-1)
7 p.m. ET; SUN, CSN-DC, NHL.TV

Capitals team scope

Forward Paul Carey will be in the lineup for the Washington Capitals after an illness kept him out of a 3-0 home loss to the New York Islanders on Thursday. Coach Barry Trotz said that he expects each team to play with a sense of urgency, but the key will be avoiding penalties: The Lightning have scored 21 power-play goals this season, the Capitals have scored 10. "They are a fast, opportunistic group, and they have a lot of different guys that can score," Trotz said. "We will have to stay out of the box. Washington has scored 12 goals in its past six games, but Trotz felt the Capitals did some good things against the Islanders. "I thought we played a fairly structured game," he said. "We were getting lots of chances, but we couldn't find the back of the end."

Lightning team scope

The Tampa Bay Lightning are 1-5-0 in their past six games, and goalie Ben Bishop expects the team to play with a high level of desperation. "We're a pretty ticked-off group right now but so are they," Bishop said. "It should be fun with two mad teams going at each other." With injuries throughout the lineup, call-ups such as forward Joel Vermin are getting plenty of ice time. Vermin had two assists in a 5-4 road loss to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. "[Joel] will be in the lineup again because he's earned it," coach Jon Cooper said. The Lightning lost all three games against the Capitals last season and haven't defeated Washington since Nov. 1, 2014. "They are a 50-plus win team with all stars all over the place and one of the best goaltenders in the league," Cooper said. "Put that together and you've got a pretty good team."
