ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin was lucky and good against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
Ovechkin combined his skill and his penchant for being in the right place at the right time into his 14th NHL hat trick, and the Capitals held off the Wild 4-3 at Xcel Energy Center.
Ovechkin scored all three of his goals in the second period for his first three-goal game since Dec. 13, 2013. It was the first time that Ovechkin scored three goals in the same period since March 3, 2008.
