TRENDING UP

Edmonton Oilers tandem -- Goalies Mikko Koskinen and Cam Talbot (potential 2019 unrestricted free agents) each have benefited from the hiring of coach Ken Hitchcock, and the Oilers are 8-2-1 since the change. Edmonton is the only team with two goalies in the top 25 at the position this week and has allowed 25 goals in 11 games under Hitchcock entering Thursday, tied for second-fewest in the NHL during that span.
Martin Jones -- The San Jose Sharks goalie is 3-1-0 with a .948 save percentage in his past four games. His recent performance is encouraging for fantasy owners after he started the season 9-6-3 with an .887 SV% in the first 18 games. With the Sharks' deep forward group and two top 15 fantasy defensemen (Brent Burns, Erik Karlsson), Jones has the potential to be a top 10 goalie soon if he finds consistency.

TRENDING DOWN

Roberto Luongo -- Fantasy owners who were patient with Luongo during his injury absences likely are considering dropping the Florida Panthers goalie. After a 33-save shutout in his return to the lineup Dec. 4, Luongo has allowed four goals in each of his past three games. Luongo has fallen behind the Oilers tandem and even Calgary Flames goalie Mike Smith (undisclosed), who's day to day after leaving their game Wednesday.
Arizona Coyotes goalies -- The long-term injury to elite goalie Antti Raanta and recent struggles of backup Adin Hill have made the Coyotes one of the least attractive teams for fantasy goaltending again. Darcy Kuemper has returned from injury this week but allowed four goals on 26 shots against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. The Coyotes still are tied for eighth in team SV% (.909), but expect that total to decline in the coming months with Raanta potentially done for the season.

INJURY NOTES

Andrei Vasilevskiy --The Tampa Bay Lightning goalie is expected to return from a foot injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday (7:30 p.m. ET; TVAS, SUN, SNO, NHL.TV). With the Lightning on a seven-game winning streak entering Thursday and Vasilevskiy having elite peripherals this season (.927 SV%), he's the No. 2 goalie in NHL.com's rankings. Backup Louis Domingue will lose significant fantasy value moving forward and has dropped out of the rankings this week.
Matt Murray --The Pittsburgh Penguins goalie has been activated off injured reserve and could start against the Boston Bruins on Friday. Murray's .877 SV% this season is well below his NHL career average (.913), but he still has upside with the Penguins' elite offensive talent. That said, backup Casey DeSmith is worth holding onto in deep leagues as a handcuff based on Murray's injury history.
