TRENDING UP

Mike Smith, CGY: The Calgary Flames acquired Smith on June 17 to solidify their goaltending, but the veteran wasn't playing as well as they had hoped early on this season. However, Smith made 21 saves in a 2-1 win against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, marking the fifth time in the past six games he's allowed two goals or fewer. Smith has a .935 save percentage in that span, but is 2-2-2 because the Flames have totaled four goals in the four losses. His SV% has risen to .918 and he ranks 69th overall in Yahoo despite the Flames ranking 22nd in goals per game (2.77) and power-play percentage (17.1).
Henrik Lundqvist, NYR: The New York Rangers goaltender is another year older (35) but has quietly had a bounce-back fantasy season. He's 17-8-2 with a 2.59 goals-against average and .920 SV%, one season after NHL career lows in each category (2.74 GAA, .910 SV%). He's won his past three starts, allowing a total of five goals, and is 9-2-0 with a .938 SV% and one shutout in his past 12 games. One concern moving forward is that he's shouldering a heavy workload, starting 29 games compared to five for backup Ondrej Pavelec (4 percent owned).
Cory Schneider, NJD: Schneider will make his fifth straight start for the New Jersey Devils on Thursday when they host the Rangers. He's 3-0-1 allowing eight goals with wins against the Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks in that span. Schneider has a .920 SV% and has earned the Devils at least a point in 18 of 24 games, a huge reason they are near the top of the Metropolitan Division. The Devils are using their speed to create more chances and score more goals, putting Schneider on pace for a much-improved win total (14 wins in 25 games this season; 20 wins in 60 games last season).

TRENDING DOWN

Sergei Bobrovsky, CBJ: Although it may have been unrealistic to expect the Columbus Blue Jackets goalie to put up numbers similar to his Vezina-winning season in 2016-17 (41-17-5, 2.06 GAA, .931 SV%, seven SO), Bobrovsky has really underperformed in recent weeks. He allowed seven goals against the Boston Bruins on Monday and has allowed at least four goals in three of his past four starts and five of eight. His GAA has risen from 2.02 to 2.44 and his SV% has dropped from .931 to .919 over the second span. He's not in danger of losing his starting job, but Bobrovsky also isn't getting much help from an offense and power play that are severely underachieving.
Martin Jones, SJS: Since returning from injury following a 4-0 shutout against the Winnipeg Jets on Nov. 25, Jones has looked nothing like himself. He's made six starts and has allowed at least four goals in each, with one win and five losses. Jones was a workhorse for the San Jose Sharks over the past two seasons with at least 35 wins and 65 starts in each, but he's 11-8-3 with a 2.62 GAA in 23 games. Jones (93 percent owned) likely isn't available, but his backup Aaron Dell (34 percent owned) could be. Dell has six wins in nine starts and an impressive 1.75 GAA, .939 SV% and two shutouts.
Thomas Greiss, NYI: The New York Islanders goaltender has started the past three games but hasn't looked sharp, allowing 13 goals in the span. Greiss (36 percent owned) is 9-5-2 but has poor peripherals (3.83 GAA, .883 SV%). His GAA has gone up and SV% has gone down in each of the past two seasons. Unfortunately for the Islanders, Jaroslav Halak (55 percent owned) hasn't fared much better. Halak has a 2.97 GAA and .905 SV% but was pulled in his last start after allowing four goals on 20 shots in less than 30 minutes in a 5-2 loss to the Dallas Stars. It's probably best for fantasy owners to stay away from this tandem for now.
