Injury updates

Roberto Luongo, FLA -- After not playing since the Florida Panthers' opening game of the season Oct. 6 because of a knee injury, Luongo was activated off injured reserve this week and won in his return at the 2018 NHL Global Series in Finland. Luongo has a clear advantage on backup James Reimer moving forward and is a must-add player on the waiver wire.
Scott Darling, CAR -- He has something to prove after a poor 2017-18 season and with newcomer Petr Mrazek and waiver-wire pickup Curtis McElhinney performing adequately in his absence. Darling, who returned from a lower-body injury against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, has three years left on his contract and will get starts, but it's tough to trust him right now in a three-goalie situation.

Antti Raanta, ARI -- The Arizona Coyotes have allowed the fewest goals per game in the NHL at 1.91 and have the second-best penalty kill (90.6 percent), with Raanta being a steady performer through thick and thin. He has picked up where he left off last season, and when healthy is a must-start goalie with the potential to end the season among the top 10 at the position. The Coyotes are 4-0-0 and have outscored opponents 20-4 since the return of top-line center Alex Galchenyuk.
Thomas Greiss, NYI-- The New York Islanders signed Robin Lehner to a one-year contract during the offseason, which could have meant trouble for Greiss. But Greiss has been sharp during the past week, with two wins and a save percentage of at least .935 in his two starts. When Lehner returns from injury, it could cut into Greiss' playing time, but the Islanders likely will ride the hot hand in Greiss.

Los Angeles Kings -- WIth Jonathan Quick out for the next 3-6 weeks following surgery to repair the meniscus in his knee, it likely means backup Jack Campbell will see the majority of the work for the Kings. However he's been mediocre lately, leaving the opportunity for Los Angeles to start veteran Peter Budaj, who filled in nicely when Quick was injured two seasons ago. Budaj, who has been recalled from Ontario of the American Hockey League, is worth monitoring as a low-risk, high-reward add.
Juuse Saros, NSH -- Starter Pekka Rinne returned from injury Thursday and made 42 saves in a 4-1 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning, prompting Saros to be among the most dropped players in Yahoo. However, Saros remains one of the most efficient backups and likely will make at least one start each week, even if Rinne remains healthy. Saros also has strong peripherals, with six wins, a 2.50 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage, and is an ideal handcuff for Rinne owners or a third goalie as a standalone.
