Andersen-Howard 11-9

NHL.com's fantasy hockey goalie top 25 rankings are based on past production and expectations for the rest of the season in standard Yahoo leagues. For more fantasy hockey coverage, visit NHL.com/Fantasy.

Trending up

Frederik Andersen, TOR -- In Andersen's past nine games, he has a .945 save percentage but a record of 5-4-0. That's a testament to how well the Toronto Maple Leafs goalie has been playing. Andersen has eight wins, a 2.18 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and one shutout this season, among the NHL's best in each category. Even without the goal support of injured center Auston Matthews, Andersen's peripherals have been elite.
Jimmy Howard, DET -- The Detroit Red Wings have turned it around since a slow start with four wins in five games, and Howard has three of them, including a 40-save performance in a 3-2 shootout win against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Howard (24 percent owned) hasn't allowed more than three goals in his past seven starts and is a great injury replacement option, especially in a contract year (potential 2019 unrestricted free agent).

Trending down

Matt Murray, PIT -- The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost five straight games, and Murray has been part of the problem. He's allowed at least four goals in three of his past four starts and six of nine this season. Murray has a 3.87 GAA and an .886 save percentage, meaning backup Casey DeSmith could see more playing time. DeSmith has allowed a total of five goals in his past five appearances, including a shutout, and is trending in the right direction.
Carey Price, MTL -- The Montreal Canadiens have been one of the most surprising teams in the NHL, but it's surprising that Price isn't responsible for much of their success. He's allowed at least four goals in each of his past four games (total of 19 allowed) and has a 3.07 GAA and .892 SV% this season. Backup Antti Niemi hasn't performed well either, so he doesn't pose much of a threat to Price's playing time. However, Price is far from a lineup lock at this time.

Injury update

Antti Raanta, ARI -- He landed on injured reserve because of a lower-body injury earlier this week, but is among the NHL leaders in GAA (2.10) and SV% (.929) and could return as soon as Tuesday. Darcy Kuemper could start each game this weekend for the Arizona Coyotes with Raanta out, but has not performed well in his past two, allowing nine goals in back-to-back losses to the Philadelphia Flyers.
