The 28-year-old forward has scored 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) in 44 games this season. He is in the final season of a three-year contract he signed with Winnipeg on July 19, 2018, and could have become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
"I think it's such a good fit playing in Winnipeg," Lowry told the Jets website. "Being a part of this organization for so long, starting here, being drafted here. It's one of those things where if you have the opportunity to play your whole career with one organization, I think you want to just at that opportunity."
Selected by Winnipeg in the third round (No. 67) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Lowry has scored 143 points (65 goals, 78 assists) in 452 regular-season games and nine points (three goals, six assists) in 31 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
"I know my role in this organization," Lowry said. "I love my teammates. I love playing for this team so I'm thrilled I got it done."
Lowry leads the Jets in hits (132) and ranks second among forwards in shorthanded ice time per game (2:34), one second behind Andrew Copp.
"I know my role is not necessarily to score goals, but if I can contribute at that end of the rink while still playing solid defensively, contribute on the penalty kill ... I think there's still areas of my game I can improve," Lowry said. "Hopefully we can look back over these five years and I had a positive impact on the team."
The Jets (27-14-3) are second in the seven-team Scotia North Division, three points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs, and 16 ahead of the fifth-place Calgary Flames. The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs.
