Seguin plays hero in OT as he bats in game winner

DALLAS -- Tyler Seguin scored 54 seconds into overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets at American Airlines Center on Wednesday.

Seguin's initial shot on a 2-on-1 was stopped by Connor Hellebuyck, but after the goalie knocked the puck up into the air with his blocker, Seguin batted it into the net.
"I just thought that [Blake Wheeler] was baiting me," Seguin said. "Quick shot last second, and the puck was in the air, and I felt like I got another whack on it. ... I thought it went in right away, and happy it did."
The call on the ice was confirmed after a video review determined the puck completely crossed the goal line before Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey was able to clear it.
"So [Seguin] shot [the puck] at my blocker and I blockered it up and as it was descending, I got another piece of it and knocked it up again," Hellebuyck said. "Then that's where it ran into his stick, and he swatted at it. For me, I knocked it up twice, which had to be over my shoulder. I don't know exactly where it was at the net, but it was close. Definitely close."
Seguin had a goal and an assist, and Jamie Benn had a goal and two assists for the Stars (28-20-2), who are 5-2-0 in their past seven games. Jake Oettinger made 20 saves.

Mark Scheifele had a goal and assist, and Neal Pionk had two assists for the Jets (22-20-9), who are 4-4-2 in their past 10 games. Hellebuyck made 36 saves.
"Every time we play these guys, we have good games, hard games, close games," Winnipeg coach Dave Lowry said. "Obviously, with where both teams are positioned in the standings, it was going to have the makeup of a real tight, heavy game."
Denis Gurianov tied it 2-2 at 13:35 of the third period when Benn made a drop pass to Seguin, who found Gurianov in front of the net.
"He played to his strengths, used his speed, went to the net," Benn said. "[Seguin] made a great pass. That was a big goal for us."
Wheeler gave Winnipeg a 1-0 lead at 7:14 of the first period off a turnover by Joe Pavelski in the neutral zone. Scheifele entered the zone with Pionk, who found Wheeler in the slot to finish off an odd-man rush.
Wheeler has scored 13 points in his past seven games (four goals, nine assists).

WPG@DAL: Wheeler capitalizes off of Dallas turnover

Benn scored a shorthanded goal to tie it 1-1 at 17:50 of the second period. Roope Hintz forced a turnover to spring Benn for a 2-on-1, who shot five-hole on Hellebuyck
"It's great to get that shorty, I'll tell you that," Dallas coach Rick Bowness said. "We needed a goal. We had the chances that we had previous to that and [didn't score]. We needed to score in that period."

WPG@DAL: Benn gets one back shorthanded for Dallas

Scheifele put Winnipeg back in front 2-1 at 4:27 of the third period with a one-timer from the right circle on the power play.
"Trying to protect a one goal lead, I think maybe we sat back a little bit too much through the period," Morrissey said. "It was a long time to sort of sit back, I think that's where you have to keep pushing. I'd have to go back and watch it. Obviously, you'd like to push for the third goal and pull ahead by two.
"It's a Central Division game against Dallas, we have a lot of these grinding type of games. Managed to push it to overtime. We score in OT, it's a different story. There's a lot of good things in that game. We gave up more shots (39) than we'd like to see. We'll look at it and find ways to get better."
