What's the best piece of career advice you've ever been given, or what advice do you like to give others?
Write a thank you note. Not solely career advice as it's what my parents always instilled in me from a young age. However it's something that I credit for my career today and the opportunities I've had along the way. Not just in terms of writing the physical notes to share your appreciation, but also in terms of taking those moments during you journey to pause and appreciate the things you have and the people you've met along the way.
What is a quality you admire most in others (personal or professional)?
Hard work. I admire hustle over pretty much anything, especially coupled with an unwillingness to surrender. Definitely Team MacGyver. You might not have the key already in your hand to open the door, but you're going to figure out a way to use two paperclips and a string and have the same outcome.
What is your favorite book and why?
For a while I used to give Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" as a present because it was one of my favorites. I also petitioned to teach it my last year teaching in Tampa, just prior to joining the Golden Knights. I love the redemption arc of the lead character and how much of a difference one man can make in the lives of others. I also love the ambiguity of the beginning and the ending because it lends itself to interpretation. And as someone passionate about sports, the novel speaks to the power of teamwork and even the power of sports to unite us together, even in the darkest of times.
